I'm considering trading in my 07 cafed T100 for a 2013 Tiger 800 for a different kind of ride. The reviews throughout YouTube and the net generally rave about how enjoyable the Tiger 800 is for short and long jaunts. However, I'm now noticing a number of riders complaining bitterly about excessive heat lifting off the catalytic converter and frying their legs and butt through the frame and the seat.

I will be test riding a Tiger 800 in a couple of hours but it is 45 degrees or so today, so I'm trying to get an idea of what kind of heat the Tiger 800 generates in the summer. I sold an ST two years ago because of the major heat the bike dumped on my legs over 90 degrees under 40 mph.

Test rode the Tiger 800 and, aside from wind buffeting, which I expected, the bike felt great. Easy to ride, excellent upright perch for vision, smooth shifting for brand spanking new, and easy to flick around. The temp was only 45 degrees so I was unable to get any sense of temp from the cat. The temp bars sat at about 6.

Because I'm not keen on the possibility of frying my legs throughout the summer, especially in traffic, I'm going to keep looking. Mostly at oil and air cooled bikes. For me, old tech is "cooler" tech.

Don't worry about the heat. You're in PA with pretty much the same climate as me in CT and the heat is nothing to worry about. If you at minimum wear jeans when you ride you'll be fine. I've ridden my 800 through 2 summers so far with no issues. You can feel some heat at times on a HOT day while stopped. I don't find the heat anymore than what my Daytona kicks out. As soon as you start rolling again, the heat is gone.

+1 to what GearHd6 wrote. I feel the same way. My 2000 Sprint RS threw a little more heat than this Tiger 800 roadie I now ride, but I probably feel that way because I was leaning a bit closer to it.
