I just received a Powerlet Products PL/SAE adapter cable (PAC-008-06) I ordered to connect my Battery Tender to the Tiger to keep the charge up when bike is idle. Since the two classic style Hinckleys in the shed have their adapter cables directly connected to the battery posts, I know I'm getting a charge through to the battery cells. But, what about the adapter I got for the Tiger that plugs into the power outlet? Does the voltage get to the battery when ignition is switched off?

This didn't dawn on me previously, but now I tend to think the power outlet circuit would only be closed (energized) when the key is turned on. Or maybe I should just get my Tiger owner's manual and look for the electrical schematic:^)
Believe it or not, I'm an electrician, but am looking to see if anyone else is doing this (trying to charge their battery through the power outlet), and I'm obviously lazy :-D
Thanks in advance for any replies!

Well, I connected the Battery Tender to the power outlet after work this afternoon and the light came on red (on the Tender), indicating a full charging was underway. I checked it a couple hours later and the green trickle charge lamp is displayed. Maybe I answered my own question?

Yip !! looks like you answered your own question, i bought a couple of HELLA, BMW type plugs and made up a cable so i can give the Tiger a charge now and again if its off the road for a bit. i checked first with a digital volt meter to see, A. it was live when switched off. B. to check what was POS and what was NEG. its taken me a year to even look at the socket, never thought i would ever use it. saves taking the seat off to charge. i dont think i will give it a blast from the charger, just set it on low, just in case !!

I did that too (from Motobins - now keep getting BMW offers!) then discovered Vehicle Wiring Products in Nottingham do them at less than half the price (here).

They also do lots of other useful bits & bobs.

I use an Optimate charger plugged into the accessory socket, no problem at all.

You can also get the plugs at "John Deere" and "Lucas" outlets. Generally only a few quid each. I've used them on my heated waistcoat and my GPS. You can also get the sockets.
