The lousy weather at the weekend had me idly surfing the net and I came across this THREAD on the GSer forum. With over 230 contributions and viewed over 14000 times, it's still alive and kicking! Maybe the guy that opened this can of worms rides a Tiger?
WARNING: Don't click the link if you have less than one hour to spare!
Apologies if its bad form to post links here to anything BMW

Wouldn't you just love to do one of them "Sliding Doors" things and see what would have happened if they'd got the KTMs, and still made it?
KTM would have had to rush out some big time merchandising; jackets, lids etc.
And would have to design a bike which is comfortable for a ride over of 100miles on the road.
And would have had to get a bigger factory.

Wow. I only glanced at a couple of pages of that; I've never seen such concern about clothing, except from a high-school cheerleader squad.
I use... Clothes. Usually clean, but sometimes not. I wear... Boots. Sometimes I will wear shoes, however. I also wear... A helmet. On rare occasions, I won't, however. I frequently wear... A jacket. Usually leather, but sometimes not. I also use... Gloves. Except for some warm days, when I don't.
I'm not sure what brand these all are. I don't care what brand you use. Matter of fact; I'd rather NOT have some big brand name, plastered all over my head, feet, or body. I don't want it on my clothes, I don't want it on my riding suit. I use Army wind pants in the cold, because my son left a pair here, and they'll go over my CLOTHES. I got some protective gear, but I don't care what kind it is. If I wore some fancy, big-name brand stuff, my kids would laugh me out of the house. I...
Oh, well. I guess I'm just not fashion conscious.

The Tiger is a safely unfashionable bike. Thank goodness.
I get the odd pitying sneer from some GS owners, in the same way I have from Mercedes owners when I get out of my Vauxhall. Some people are very, very sad.

Very!
I tested a GS1200 and wrote my opinions of it on the UKgser site. I had some concerns in some areas and critisized some things and DARED to compare it to my Tiger955i.
Honestly, if you read some of their replies out of context you'd have thought I'd been shagging their 12 year old daughter!
Most GS12 riders can't see that they've spent £3000 more than a Tiger and got a potentially dangerous pile of sh1t. :hammer:

So I posted my bit :-
God! You lot should take a rest.
Anyway, I don't get these Heine Gericke Toureg or BMW Rally suits. Where's the sense in having to strip off completely, on the side of the road, in order to put the water proof bit INSIDE when it starts to rain?? To me, it's a bit like buying an oil head BMW ........BIZARRE!
Hope that stirs them up a bit.

Blacktiger, Your'e absolutely right, I have an 1150 GS but I won't be buying another BMW, I'm just bideing my time until a 1050 version of the Tiger is available and then I'll decide whether it will be the Tiger or the Caponord, in any event the BMW is a non starter, the brakes issue alone is enough to put me off, the number of ABS failures with the servo brakes is alarming, and the build quality is no better if as good as any other bike.
I had a good long test ride on a 955 Tiger and I was impressed, I thought it was a better riding position than the 1200 GS, which is to low for me, the Tiger was fine, my only gripes were the footpegs could do with being just a little lower and a bit further forward, the performance was excellent, it rolls on in almost any gear and pulls like a train.
The only niggles were the switch for the heated grips is badly placed, the indicator lights in the cockpit are difficult to see in daylight and the screen is hopeless for my 6ft 2" frame.
At the moment the Capo has it, the riding position is spot on and the lights, screen and instrumentation is better, ergonomically the Capo is superior but I like the triple engine and will be keeping a close eye out for a 1050 engined Tiger, hopefully the other issues may have been addressed as well, if the Tiger were redesigned along the lines of the Capo then the BMW would pale into insignificance.
Your observations on 1200 GS riders is spot on, they are like children, they just have to have the latest BMW badge, the clothing by the way is made in Romania and as you say is mediocre at best, i'm glad youv'e stirred 'em up I thought I was the only one who dared to criticise.
I'm not looking to change until 2006/7, who knows what the Triumph factory have planned.
P.S. The Tiger screen issue can be easily solved with a Cee Baileys screen, my 1150 GS screen was also ***** but the Cee Baileys is excellent. :-D

Didn't some say that unless you become like children, you shall never be allowed into Heaven............?
Ah yes, at a local road racing circuit a saftey course was held, a number of riders of adventure bikes were storming around, GS's and Tiger alike.
Coming round the last bend, someone in the depot shouted:" Look out, lads!! Here come the reindeers...!!"
