Had a brilliant rideout today with a mate on his ZX10, The only fly in the ointment was a broken headlight lens on tango.
While we were both overtaking a line of cars I was suddenly showered with what felt like rocks coming up off the rear tire of his bike, so I backed off, but not before the damage was done.
Broken lens, big chips out of the fairing, mudguard and the rad has a few dents in it also, one of which has crushed a water rail
I also have a big chip out of my helmet. I'm amazed my visor didn't crack, these were big stones
So I think the next add ons will have to be light guards and rad guard

Blimey!!! Funny you should mention that, went up to Ponderosa in NW a few weeks a go,a guy turned up on an orange Tiger with a goldy covered gauze over his rad and oil cooler, and even after haveing a good look couldn't work out how it was fixed or even if it was bought or home made, but it looked very good,in comparison with some of the retail options i've seen.

been there done the broken headlight bit. Unfortunately you need to buy the full light, not just the glass cover (even though they are detachable!).

Yeah that's what, I'll try the breakers first. David have you fitted lens covers on your bike?
The headlight is a pis?er bur it's the big chips out of the fairing that's worse, six coats of paint and four laquer so they're pretty deep and a couple are quite big. I do have the paint in my garage for them but when I touch them in they'll be dark blobs against the rest. I might end up getting the whole thing repainted again

nope
I decided that after all the years of riding with only one bust headlight, even though in my time I've been down the road twice, I had not a bad average and as such decided against. I am sure when it next happens I will change my mind (horse bolted etc) but I have not seen anything that looked decent to me. To be honest its the same with the rad and oil cooler guards. I would have fitted but most I have seen so far on closer inspection looked kike glorified home made jobs or were nice shiny silver finished (for a black and orange bike just didnt loo like it would go.

Phoned Triumphant this morn' and ordered a replacement lens. Triumph supply the lens and reflector for £40+, you don't have to buy the whole light unit.
Triumphant, used £20+p&p.

that is the whole light unit, then you have another the same on the other side bolted into the frame behind the fairing
Maybe I wasnt clear enough but as far as I'm concerned they should sell just the glass. It just clips in place and I would guess most folks dont need the reflector if the glass gets busted. Just another excuse to fleece us all for parts. Mind you it tends to be the same with all vehicles now you buty the full "sealed" unit(?)

So, basically, what they're doing is covering the lens with sticky plastic film which will not stop the rock breaking the glass but WILL hold it in place for the ride home.
Still got to buy a new one! :???: Have I got that right?
