Hi all,

I know this isn't really a Tiger topic but I ride a Tiger so I thought I'd post it here anyway.

Has anybody found a hemet yet that's fairly quiet? I use a Shoei Raid and have used Shoei's in the past too, but the noise is pretty unbearable. I use ear plus for long journeys but there must be a helmet out there that's quieter?

Am just about to buy a new one so any recommendations would be much appreciated

Cheers

Russ

P.S. Has anyone tried one of those helmet skirts that fits to the bottom to stop wind getting in?

I have found the Shoei RF 1000 (I think it has a different model name outside the U.S.?) with the windscreen to be pretty good, much better than the RF 800 which I had prior. This year I bought a Shark, and it is the quietest helmet I've ever worn. A bit pricey, but absolutely quiet with no need for earplugs ever. I use it for highway riding mostly, and use the RF 1000 for around town and secondary road riding.

I use a Roof Diversion plus tuck my neck scarf up so it fills the space between helmet and jawbone under the ears. Very quiet. Don't need earplugs.

Juts keep different types of neck scarf for summer or winter.

Paul - I've heard a lot of good things about the Roof Diversion / R010 / R020, and it's currently my no 1 choice when I replace my AGV next year. Everyone using them go on about how silent they are. I have major issues with misting this time of year (I wear glasses) on my AGV - how is the Roof for misting? Also - have you got Autocom helmet kit fitted, if so does it fit OK?

I use a Roof Diversion. A good quiet helmet and a good snug fit. Mine suffers from misting, but because the visor is not on a ratchet system you can actually open in just a fraction to allow for demisting, without getting a blast in the face.
Fog City do a smaller version of their insert, which I've usedin my Roof and it worked fine.

I have the Autocom system rigged up in my helmet and I don't even notice it's there, a belter of a piece of kit.

Thanks for the info guys.... looks like the Roof is the one to go for... have just been reading about them and they're really highly rated by everyone for noise.... looks nice in Silver too, will match the bike.... plus there's a cool orange one for all you Lucifer owners!

Will let you know how I get on with it...

Cheers

Roof have recently had a fire at their factory in France, which, apparently done quite a bit of damage. Don't know how available they are at the moment.

helmets are always a trade off.

The only way to get a quiet one is to have no vents and very littleto disturb the airflow around the helmet.

If you look at the Roof (as an example) it will be fairly quiet compared to say my RX7. Why, next to no vents BUT this causes other problems that IMHO are far more dangerous. Lack of vents means misting problems and everyone I know that has Roof helmets have misting problems. Maybe not an issue if you only ride in arm weather but if like most you encounter variations then this is a big issue and certainly more of an issue than noise.

Second problem is that the lack of vents means the helmet is going to be very warm, no good if you ride in warm climes!

Basically you can have good ventillation and cooling with the clear visor that promotes or you can have a quieter helmet. Unfortunately no-one has managed to come up with the all in solution yet

I have a cheap shark that I got when I was waiting for my RX7 to be specially imported from Japan. It is quieter but again has less vents though I would guess still better than the Roof or its like.
