Any feedback on the 2000? I know the 01 went to 955 anything else important? I have a 98 Sprint Sport in the garage so I know that motor and I also have a 04 Daytona. How good is the 2000 for a highway/fireroad bike. Should I look more at 01's and beyond?

One of the differences you may encounter is more tendency for the front end to dive during braking if it is factory stock. I'm not sure exactly when they addressed that, but I'm thinking it was in '01...might've been earlier, though. (I know they did it again in '05, but this time also taking away some of the suspension travel range in the process.) I don't recall anyone saying it was a real control problem or anything, just that it feels excessive to a lot of riders. It shouldn't be a drawback for riding fire roads, but it might be a factor if you want to ride twisties on the highway.

It would really be worth your while to try to test ride the 2000 model and a newer one before making up your mind. You might decide a newer one feels just a little closer to the way your Daytona does. Or, you might decide that it doesn't matter and the older Tiger would work out fine for you.

I think you should understand that whatever your fireroad is ... it should be somewhat hard packed. In NM, you may have a lot of pine needles that are very slick.... the Tiger is top heavy and requires full attention when venturing in the backwoods. ]

The 2000 was a good year and should be perfectly trustworthy. Personally.... I'd put soft bags on it for riding fireroads. Have Fun.
