OK, of course I know what it does but:
This afternoon someone (me probably) knocked the switch when the bike was parked up.
When I went to start it, the illumination came on but all the status lights and the taco didn't. And the alarm re-armed while the ignition was on 'go'
So, I guess, from all the status lights being off, it kills the ECU - but why was the alarm affected?
(I haven't checked whether the alarm can re-arm if the switch is hit once its actually running because I don't really want to kill it unnecessarily - but if it does, that's got to be wrong).
(fwiw, its a datatool series 3 alarm)

It really fooled me - my brother had given the Tiger a good seeing to and on his return had switched the kill switch off. I never use these new-fangled inventions so when I came to ride it the following day I couldn't for the life of me work out what was going on - the whole thing seemed dead (I didn't look at the lights). I'd actually got down to looking for a blown fuse before it struck me what had happened.... It does seem totally unnecessary to kill everything - why not just disable the ignition circuit? Ah well, all adds to life's rich proggy mat.

Mine does the same thing. I think the alarm arms because hitting the kill switch is the same as turning the ignition off. So, after 20 seconds the alarm springs to life.
Turning the kill switch to "on" again will sound the alarm.

I think the kill switch just kills the ignition. I know when I came off last month or there abouts I hit the kill switch straight away. My music stayed on, which indicates power was still on to the lights but the alarm armed before I could get myself out from under the bike.

Not exactly what you want to happen is it?
(Even if the alarm sounding might be a useful call for help)
IMHO if the kill switch is hit when the ignition is on, the alarm should not arm.
And I'm wondering if this is consistent across bikes, or maybe some of them have alarms that are badly installed.
Maybe a call to Datatool is required?

Does the alarm have its own internal battery? Perhaps hitting the kill switch tricks it into believeing that someone has cur the battery in an attempt to knock out the alarm!

And of course you can't even put the Datatool into that irritating "service" mode when it bleeps every 15 seconds as the ignition has to be on to do that and with the kill switch off that doesn't work.

If that were the case it would sound off straight away but it waits 20 seconds or so, then arms, as if the ignition had been turned off by the key.
It's just the way Triumph has wired it up.
I remember Hondas, in the 80's, that would allow the starter to turn over when the kill switch was "off". I know one bloke who practically stripped the whole bike to bits trying to find the fault only to realise some oik had hit the kill switch! :hammer:

Kill Switch...
On - Off switch.
Gents I can only say that it is good HABIT to use the kill switch EVERY time you shut the bike down.... for ONE reason ..... if the need ever occurs to shut down .... and a lot of other things are happening .... it is a matter of HABIT to simply flip the switch rather than reach up and turn the ignition OFF.
Sounds Hokey .... but I seen riders do some DUMB stuff while going thru the process of shifting to nuetral, looking around and reaching up to turn the key off.
