Just had this months Bike drop through the letter box,Blimey!!! if Triumph make half the effort with the Tiger that they have made with the new 675,there's full article on it,then we could be in for a real treat next Year.
I've spoken to someone who's seen it,but it was pre-production so means nothing!!!.

I've just traded my Daytona Centennial for a Tiger.I could have been tempted by the 675 but am looking forward to a different experience with the tiger. The BIKE article is extremely complimentary and the 675 should do well.Triumph are on a roll and i'm sure a new and exciting Tiger must be under development.

Chris - When you wrote "spoke to someone who has seen it" did you mean the 'revamped' Tiger or the 06' 675?

I assume you are reffering to the boxer engine??
If so, let it be known that the first boxer (with shaft drive) was introduced in 1923 and was a scratch design aimed solely at propelling a motorcycle. The concept was so successful that it has been in continous production since, having been developed into an extremely reliable, flexible and smooth powerplant.
My maths tell me that this is a tad more than 60 years??
I also assume that BMW got something right - either the product or the marketing, since there are still thousands and thousands of discerning motorcyclists who swear by it's virtues? As said: You cannot fool all of the people all the time
The aircraft bit relates to Triumph (Meriden) who used the barrel and head off a generator from WW2 bombers to provide better cooling for a racing engine, said parts being cast in aluminium. This model, the Triumph GP, of 500cc capacity, did indeed enjoy a very brief spell of success - re Ernie Lyons.
The Triumph Tiger is a lovely motorcycle - I should know, I've had two, but I am acutely aware of the qualities of the BM*, too. If I were to buy a bike in that category again, I'd probably end up with a Tiger, but it would be a close race!
The new 1200GS is a pretty good machine, too!

I really dont understand this bmw (or any other manufacturer for that matter) bashing. The beemer is a very good bike. BMW make a good range and sell them a helluva lot. Is this solely marketing - I dont think so!
Irrespective of the marketing, you can only continue to sell shed loads of bikes if they do their job (whatever that may be).
Triumph have been getting plaudits for their range and other manufacturers continue to get the same for parts of their ranges. This is correct and fitting. As to the beemer being a sixty (odd) year old design - If it aint broke, DONT FIX IT!
Just because its old, dont mean it doesnt still do a job( point of reference: old and knackered - djr)

Dont get me wrong, I have a grudging respect for BMW's and think they have done very well with a very old design. It does seem strange that they have this reliability image and yet many on this new group and elsewhere say they are the same, if not worse than other brands. They are certainly very good at maintaining an image, but I would not buy one. I enclose a comment from a riding mate of mine about his 1200 GS.
I was just getting into my stride last Saturday on the way to Boscastle when the unthinkable happened my beloved GS gave up the ghost.
And the problem?
After 4 days at Coopers I was told
. That there had been a recall on the fuel pump controller
. There is a software update to improve slow running etc
. Some other ***** that I can't recall
BMW apparently have a policy that if it not life threatening the recalls are not advertised and are installed at services (to selected bikes). It doesn't matter that your weekend was completely spoiled. 2 hours waiting for recovery isn't my idea of fun.
Of course the fuel pump controller was renewed at the last service (5000+) but they renewed it again because it was playing up (I'm sure!!).
To all 1200 GSers out there just watch out and get any recall work done before your warrantee runs out. I was "lucky" at least it broke at 11months and 1 week.
It gives an image of a marque that in my mind is less "open" than that of Triumph.
I'll stick to the Tiger thanks
:???: :???:
