Why is the resale of the new tigers so bad. It is like they lose almost 50% going out the door. Thanks for any input. Everett

I wondered, as well, why the resale value not only of the Tiger, but all Triumphs, is so pathetic. But, if you're buying and selling bikes to make/not lose money, HD is about the only game in town. The bottom line is that these bikes are a fantastic value, buy one, ride it and enjoy!

I paid $5500 at a dealership for an 01 last year. It hadn't been on the road 2 years and had 7k miles. That doesn't sound like too steep a depreciation.

In the US, these bikes are so misunderstood. But I drive an old VW Bug too, so I like vehicles that are a little different. Be interesting to see how resale is in Europe.

What I wonder is why this subject, with almost exactly the same wording in subsequent posts, keeps resurfacing twice a year like clockwork? :-D

Resale value of anything is only what you can get for it in the length of time you have available to sell it, at the time of year and in the geographical location where you're selling. I've never been able to get "blue book" value for any bike I've tried to sell to a private individual in this area, regardless of make.

Not even a year-old Harley in superb condition. I lost 40% on that one, even after taking my time and holding my ground as best I could for many months! The dealer I finally sold it to (in a market that is much more amenable to Harley commerce than where I live) is asking the blue book price on it, as I was initially...and still has it on the floor after five months.

Moral: resale is not just an issue with Triumphs, and not even with all models of Triumph.

to KK, I am selling it because it is too tall for me and I have another mc and my honey is not too pleased since she cannot ride on the back of either at this time. It is easier for me to get another seat on my other ride and put momma on the back than it would be to lower the tiger. thanks for the reply.

I think folks should remember, when you buy a new bike both the factory and the dealer have to make a profit. I think dealers expect about £1k (in the UK a new tiger costs £7k) and I guess Hinkley expect about the same. So a new bike is actually worth about £5k... And dealers know this when traiding in etc.

Also, think about how much a bike depreciates / mile. After how many miles does a bike take before the maintenance costs start rising sharply? 70k-100k miles?

The answer of course is to buy a second hand one and let someone else take the depreciation hit.......

It didn't help you either that in 05 they made some changes most obvious is the cast wheels which most people want nowadays. I think people won't want to pay a premium for a used bike when it is a model or at least a minor revision old.

Exactly! Or, of course, buy a new one and ride it for 20 years!
