Question 955i screen

Hello all
I'm new to this , so hope this isnt to familiar to the regulars!

My 2003 Tiger (which I love) gives me and the missus a rough ride over 90 due to the air flow over the screen. Looking at some other posts its a common problem. I'm 5'11'' and 15 1/2st. standing on the pegs removes the problem as does crouching behind the screen. Can i sit on it properly at speed with out looking like a freak?

Hi Nic,
I am the same height as you but I haven't eaten as many pies. Yeah, I know, it's all muscle - right.
MRA vario screen worked for me. Although there are literally dozens of screen options available. A forum search on the subject will keep you reading for days.
If you go down the MRA route you will find you need to adjust the laminar lip between riding solo and pillion. What suits you may blow the missus off the back.

Happy hunting JJ.

Settled on MRA. Not perfect but close to it.

The BIG Cee B. works great if you want no wind at all. But looks like a barn door.

Hi Nic,

Welcome to the forum and the (proper) Tiger

Screens, screens, screens......... where do I start

A good few of us have problems with screens, and as JJ said, a search will keep you busy for days.

Most agree it's a personal thing as well, what suits one doesn't suit another.

Having said that I tried four different screens and none of them worked for me at 1.86m and 94 kg (6'01'' and 15 stone ish) I tried the MRA Vario and found it wasn't high enough to deflect the air over and to the sides of my helmet. Same with a few of the tall screens, including the Triumph tall screen and the Triumph-on-line tall screen.

In the end I made my own out of a combination of the Triumph Tall Screen, and a home made variable spoiler. The airflow goes completely over and round my helmet and I sit in still(ish) air.

Good luck with your search, but a basic tip is to ride at your normal cruising speed (70 - 90mph ??) and put your left hand out in front of your helmet and see where the airflow is hitting it. Then decide how tall a screen you would have to make / have to make that airflow go over your helmet. You would have to measure the distance between the still air lower down and the top of your helmet to get the extra height of screen you will need. You'll be surprised, it will have to be quite tall !!

Here' a picture of my own home made screen. Tall enough, and still looks good on the bike :

Hi Kenny, hows things?
I emailed Palmer the other day about a screen for my Tiger and it comes in at £175 deliverd. Just a wee bit strong for me so I am thinking of going with the Vario. Perhaps we should meet up sometime and I couls try your screen on my bike to see if it does the job before I buy.

If you want some info on Palmer screens then have a look at this thread.
http://www.tiger1050.com/index.php?o...=26&board=21.0

Unfortunately they are all for the 1050 Tger but you will get the feel of how it looks and works.

My unscientific opinion is that if you don't want to sit behind a piece of plastic and look through it then the closer the top edge of the screeen is to about the tip of your nose then the less the buffeting. Try moving your head toward the screen and up and down.

Many riders want a relatively passive sitting position (the begging dog) when a slight forward lean will give more control and, I find, less buffeting. I have a GB +4 and am 5'11".

Sometimes you have to change the seat to make it comfortable. No make that, to be comfortable always change the OEM seat.

I find a Laminar Lip (which looks a lot like Graeme's home made job pictured above) works very well.
