Smile Newbie looking at a Tiger to haul sidecar

Wow, this is a big site. No doubt tons of good info. here along with the comraderie of like minded folks. I recently started researching setting up a sidecar rig and have gone through various options for powering it. Those ranged from the Ural to the VStrom and on to the GS BMW's. I have now arrived at the Tiger.
I did do a dealer demo ride on an 06, three years ago and was impressed. Really liked the power band of that engine and the overall handling, although a hack will make that irrelevant.
Some of you are now asking why an enduro type bike? Well I have set a personal goal to make a run to Tierra delFuego, before
I am on the wrong side of the grass. So it seems durability, reliability and sufficient power to push a sidecar, becomes essential. Why a hack? Simple enough, ease of transport of the significant other. I have found a .06 with 19000KM (around 12000mi.) and a divorce makes it's sale necessary, so it is a good buy. Also think the 955 is proably more suited to what I want to do. Finally the question is, who out there has done a sidecar conversion on the Tiger? What are the pros and cons of this power unit? What would you do to prepare the rig for a trip like I am planning? I had been leaning to the BMW, but do not feel that I want to pay what the market wants,or that it is any more suitable for the application. As well I think the Tiger is probably fairly bullet proof, engine and trans. wise. So I have gone on long enough and look forward to hearing any and all opinions.

I'm not certain where I saw a website, but I've seen a BMWR1200GS or similar with a leaning sidecar

Similar to this.

Worth a look...

Alleyoop,

Welcome to the forum

With that said - pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaase don't disfigure such a beautiful looking bike with a sidecar

I think a GS would look spiffing with a sidecar, much better than a Tiger - why not pop over to a BMW forum ??

Criminal, absolutely criminal !!

I think it's quite a nice idea.... What you want to end up with is something like the old Norton Wasp (Commando-based) one of which I had the doubtful pleasure of riding against in a couple of long-distance trials. Absolutely awesome fire-breathing monster, spiitting out rocks, small animals and hapless spectators from the rear wheel.

Try: here and here for some ideas....

Go to www.klr650.com. The owner is Kelly and he has a 06 Tiger with a hack and he has gone everywere with it, Washington state to Alaska, border to border on the continental divide and beyond, he should have some good info for you.

There is a guy in Hood River, Oregon who has or had a Tiger with a sidecar. He actually ran or still runs a school teaching sidecar riding.
I can't remember much about him but his name is Red something or other and he is a member of the ADV forum. Perhaps if you searched there you could locate him.

I`m having trouble thinking of how to mount a chair to the Tiger
As an alternative, one our group has a Scrambler with a recently fitted chair- tho it would look better painted up to suit, looks the dogs danglies

I think I'll go on the Ferrari forum and tell them I'm going to put a towbar on a 430 Scuderia so I can tow a caravan, just to see what the response would be
