newbie looking at buying a tiger, info needed thanks

Hello, I am new to this forum and am looking for a road trail with more road capability than the KTM 620 and the tiger is on the list. I have a mate with a transalp and am looking at doing some longer rides around flinders rangers and such, dirt roads and fire trails, no single trail. I am interested in the old school look eg the tiger 900, xtz 750, xrv 750 (if you could ever find one) or may be even an r1100gs, due to finances am looking for prices to about $6000-7000. At present there is a tiger 900 on eBay the link is

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....7835&ssPageNam e=STRK:MEWAX:IT

As I am located in Adelaide 2000 kms away from the seller I would appreciate any thoughts on this bike eg kms, price, etc. Due to my budget I am aware that I will be buying something with higher kilometres however I know nothing regarding triumphs and there reliability/ability to do high kms, furthermore the cost of repairs or rebuilding a triumph is probably greater than Yamaha or bmw.

All information or experience would be greatly appreciated?

Or does anyone know of any the other models that I mentioned for sale?

Thanks Richard

Hi Richard,

Sorry can't help, but just wanted to say hello and welcome to the forum

I hope the Tiger is high on your list, it has masses of power for the road, a great riding position, can carry loads of luggage, very reliable and true off road capability.

Good luck with your choices.

Welcome!

Can't really say much ---with the U..S. to Aus. $ conversion and all-- But the Tiger is an EXCELLENT bike for what you are wanting to do.
I have an '05 and after 25 years of riding and owning over 30 bikes. This one will NEVER be sold!

Engines are very strong. THis one may have the "sprag clutch" issue my 98 Sprint had....which I am actually in the middle of a rebuild on. And truly. The engine has been an ease to tear down and rebuild. Cost factors not bad at all either. I bough the sprint for just 900.00 I have maybe 425.00 in parts for the rebuild to date. Carbs need rebuilt and she will be done. (THis was a complete tear down engine cases split etc. etc.) So cost not an issue in my book.

These engines are damn near bullet proof. Honestly can't say enough for the modern Triumph Triples. They flat out rock. Gobs of power, comfort for long rides. Tall long legs for off road and great handling for a large cc bike. Seen many sites of guys going round the world on 'em and didn't have the issues Charley and Ewan had with the $$$$ BMW GS bikes they rode in Long Way Round.
Check out other forums like advrider.com for more info as well.
