New to the forum, hello everyone. Looks like there are some knowledgeable types on here. Picked up my 2006 Tiger. Always been a sports bike rider, what have I been missing. Different ethos but you can make tremendous progress even running in. Great views and plenty comfort. A couple of questions you may be able to help with:
1. What steps have to be undertaken to get both headlamps on at the same time. Is it easy to do. Is there any downside to it?
2. Autocom Active 7. Where is the best mount position to achieve best comms. The handbook suggests away from big electric things like ECU etc but, rather surprisingly, not many underseat options particularly as I have a Scottoiler transversly mounted in the centre space next to two relays
3. Should there be holes straight through the rear under tray into the void under the seat where the ECU clips etc. Doesn't everything get absolutely soaked?

Thanks in advance. :???:
So many questions, so little time !

all you need for 2 headlamps is to ask your dealer to fit the missing relay.I have had this done on my last 2 Triumphs. It's cheap.

Hi,

Welcome aboard, I am also new to tigers and have been through the headlight problem just recently.

I bought the Triumph relays at £27 for the pair, but I have since found TriumphTiger-online are doing them for £12/pair.

I have also seen them on Ebay under Triumph Tiger.

Be warned, ordinary relays will drain the battery when the ignition is isolated. You must get them with diodes in and in the correct location as per the Hella ones (Triumph uses Hella).

Fitting them is a doddle, just remove the near side black plastic cover that the indicator mounts on, pull of the rubber cover and plug in. Then replace all.

Another common upgrade while your at it is to change the bulbs to Phillips Blue Vision or something similar. Downside is they cost over £20 a pair.

Was aware about the normal relays draining the battery as I had mine in for about 3 months and had not problem with flat battery so far, mind you I have it connected to an Optimate when it's in the garage so it maybe doesn't sit long enough disconnected. :???:

yes there are some holes in there. Nothings seems to get even damp, never mind soaked. If you are worried it would be easy enough to cover with some tape or sealant or both.

Gizmo - check the "Communications and electrics" part of the Tiger forum album - there's a few different ways of mounting the Autocom there. I've got mine between battery and fuse box (scottoiler behind side panel) , whilst Tango and Robbie have their units under the tank. ChrisN has his behind the ECU - look at http://www.chrisneary.co.uk/gps.html
although this might be in the way if you have soft luggage with underseat straps. Apart from that it's down to personal taster I think....

Maybe it's required here in the States, but both of my headlamps come on when bike is started (low or high beam).

They dont in Europe due to EU legislation that states both lights should only come on together if they are housed within the same unit. Unfortunately the Tiger uses two seperate units rather than one combined that "looks like two".

Hi Gizmo,
A recent convert myself, owned the Daytona 955i till August last year, since then have found out what biking is all about. Done two trips to France, Normandy and Le Mans and on Friday off to Switzerland and Italy. Fantastic comfort and the ability to cover great distances at a quick pace, also the ability to upset sports bike riders on all sorts of roads especially A roads. Go for Touratech, crash Bars and Panniers and enjoy your Tiger to the limit.
