Hens Teeth - 955i Tigers

Typical, I traded my 955i in July as I couldn't sell it privately.

Now a mate is looking for one and he is struggling to find something decent.

He is after one of the last ones registered i.e. an 06 to 07 plate. Something with less than 10k miles. Must be mint. Preferably somewhere in the North West of England.

He has seen this one in Leeds at Colin Appleyards

http://bikes.portfolio-europe.net/ez...4&BRA_ID=2262#

Anybody recognise it?

Anybody know of any others for sale (he's reviewed MCN, Ebay and Autotrader).

PM me if you can help our search.

Regards

Chris

Bill Smith Motors in Chester had an 06 that was similarly priced, I think. It seemed to hang around for a while but not sure if it's still there. they may be worth a look anyway because misguided fools are always trading them in for Beelezebub's Tease (the 1050)....!

Dealers seem to be asking top dollar for them though that's true with all used bikes at the moment.

There's a cpl up here in the Central Belt, but again not cheap.

Oddly Two Wheels in Edinburgh doesn't seem as expensive on the 955's as it always seemed to be, maybe they don't want them kicking around for long at this time of year.

Not that difficult to get up here by train. Nice ride back down too. A cpl of weekends and a bit of cash to view/buy and pick up for the right bike is always worth it ?

Chris,

My mate has just traded his silver (fastest colour) one in at Tillstons Mororcycles in Stockton-On-Tees, Cleveland if he doesn't mind travelling.

it was well maintained and has less than 5,000 miles on it I think.

Graeme,

Thanks for the info.

I have just spoken to my mate about it and he has already been in contact with the dealer.

Its on his possibility list.

Chris

I traded my 955 Tiger, fully kitted out with all touring accessories and immaculate 21000 miles in 3 years, for a new 1050 in March. The dealer added £1200 to the trade-in price and sold it in a week. The buyer kept it 6 months and then traded for a Daytona. The Tiger sold again very quickly so the dealer has made an excellent profit twice ! He has no secondhand 955 Tigers in stock, although when the model ceased production he had lots of new and 2nd hand ones that hung around the showroom for months. The 955 is obviously sort after and is a very capable tourer for the price. Having said all this,in my opinon the 1050 Tiger is superior in every way and I don't consider the off road potential is an issue for most riders. After all 2 up fully kitted with luggage who would go off road ? My only issue with the 1050 is the Triumph luggage has insufficient capacity. After 2 major European trips this year my answer is to use technical clothing and carry less. This has the advantage of less weight to lug around but means a bit of washing for a 2 week trip. I also used a tankbag which made the trip viable. Anyway 8700 miles in 6 months and the 1050 is nicely run in and a great bike for me. I've heard a rumour that Triumph may be modifying the luggage which is not much use to me as I've splashed out £800 on the 3 box system.

We are now starting to pay the price for so many bikes being shipped out of the UK,i work in trade,e'r!! sort of,and the stories just keep on coming, particularly the Dutch and Germans vacuming up the UK stock, had 3 days at the Stafford classic bike show and even the vintage stuff is priced(high) for Euro buyers, hence why we are in a full blown recession and the bike prices are sky high.

We've checked out every 955i that is for sale over the entire UK.

We thought we found a nice one in Spalding advertised on Ebay.

It was a black '07 with 6k miles. Given the last of the tigers were being sold for £5,995 it was top price at £5,245.

My mate and I travelled 180 miles from Chester to Spalding on Saturday with a bike trailer expecting to do a deal.

The guy hadn't even cleaned it properly. There was ground in dirt all around the suspension unit and a lot of the fixings and cycle parts were showing the first signs of corrosion. It was either left with salt on it or been sitting it the rain a while or maybe both.

I always wash and polish my bikes any time it they get caught in the rain. A dose of WD40 if necessary as well.

This clearly had not had such loving care and attention.

My mates looking for a mint condition one. It just wasn't good enough and certainly not good enough for the price being asked.

We walked away.

So we are still looking. Theres a black one with less than 2k miles on it in Colwyn Bay Motorcycles. They want £5,950 that's only £45 less than a new one 30 months ago!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its got no extras either.

We can be patient, he won't be using it much at this time of the year anyway and he's got a DRZ400 to play with in the interim.

It must be Europe that's snapping all the spare bikes up. I too recall lots of 955i tigers in dealers a couple of years ago.

Regards

Chris

Why's he so fussy about it being so new ???

Mines an 02, I haven't taken too great care of it since my off and cosmetically it's not looking that fab but it's stood up well to the neglect and 43000 miles.

The spoked wheels are a 'mare admittedly, and mine have suffered from all year use.

But at least you can find one.....
