One could simply heat and bend the side-stand more so it contacts the ground further from the bike--this will effectively shorten the side-stand. However, when the side-stand is "up" it will stick out to the side more, so look at this part of the remedy to see if it will work for you. To bend the side-stand, I would remove it and put it in a vise, heat it with a torch and bend it where the foot is about 1" further away from where it is stock.
Good luck,

I don't get it. My 2001 is lowered about 2" front and rear and the kickstand is fine. I wouldn't feel comfortable bending the stand, I can see that failing. If you want it to go further out, just grind the stop off a bit on the upper end of the stand. The foot won't sit flat on the ground, but it won't weaken the stand itself.

I shortened mine when i went to a 17" front wheel,it's no big deal,go to any welder/metal work company,i used the maintenance dept in the company i used to work for!!,get them to take the plate off the bottom and shorten the stem, don't go mad cutting loads off you'd be amazed how little needs taking off.
I cheated a little, just in case!! bought a secondhand sidestand, but it worked fine,i guess it's been on the bike 6/7 year now,oh and of course had to re-paint it.

Sorry guys, didn't realize you were talking about the Tigers prior to the 1050. That stand is made of steel and can be bent, cut, shortened, welded, etc.
Have a good day,
