Newbie questions re: tyres
Hi to everyone out there, I'm new to the forum so be kind!
I've just picked up an '01 955i Tiger in Roulette Green and it's a fantastic machine though there's one thing bugging me. Not knowing anything about running spoked wheels, I've noticed the Bridgestone Trailwings fitted are stamped "tubeless" on the side walls. I kinda figured as it's a spoked rim this wouldn't be possible, can you fit "tubeless" tyres on a spoked rim as long as a tubes used? The rims are marked "Behr - Made in Germany....." are these the O.E wheels for an '01 Tiger? Any help to settle my increasing paranoia would be apprecitaed

I think so. I've noticed my rims were made in Germany, but I can't recall the maker's name. ;-)

ukrob, welcome to the forum & enjoy the bike!
I hail from Norfolk (well, from nearly thirty years ago) & was last there in April.
I've got the mag wheel version 955 so I can't help answer your questions, but be a bit patience & I'm sure someone will come along with all the answers.

tyres'n'rims
Hiya,
I've got an 04 955i with spoked wheels and I'm sure they are also made by our Germanic friends.
As for tyres, I run Metzler Roadtechs (which are tubeless) but have tubes fitted. I get less road noise and the rise is smoother than the standard Tourance Tyres.
I wish I didn't have spokes mind you. They take forever to clean

Tubed tyres
Hiya Rob,
Most tyres available are now marked "tubeless", however they are OK to fit with tubes, but allways try and fit new tubes when changing tyres, they are'nt that expensive.
Another tip is to fit same make tubes as the tyres or warranty claims can be awkward.
I use Michelin Anakee on my Honda Africa Twin, these are dual marked tubeless/tubed. A very good tyre.

Thanks for all the speedy replies so far, all much appreciated!
Where do you take your wheels come tyre change time? I normally take mine to a local tyre supplier/fitter (Kingsway or Central Tyre) but call me cynical, I don't know whether they'd know what to do with a spoked rim/tubed tyre (?) though maybe I'm doing them a dis-service . Quite like to avoid Triumph workshop prices if possible..

I too have an 01 green Tiger. Yes those are the stock rims on the bike. I too run a tubless tire with a tube in them. I have talked to a couple of tire reps who said this would be fine, they do generate a little more heat, but not nearly enough to worry about.
My bike came with the Avon Distanzia's and was happy with the road grip, gravel grip was ok, and mileage was good too. But just for kicks I mounted the new Anakee II's about 2 months ago and have realy enjoyed them, the road grip is awsome (I have been giving sportbikes fits in the twisties) and I have yet to realy test them off-road.
Enjoy your new bike.

Tyre fitters
Rob,
Obviously i fit my own tyres, but then, i have my own tyre business.
A good tyre fitter should be able to fit any tyre to any wheel professionally.
My best advice is find a good independent tyre supplier and have a chat with them about bike tyres. If they bullsh!t you'll smell it.

If you're near to Norwich, try Drayton Tyre and Battery, the owner is a biker, and races track days etc. No BS and will get any you want and fit. As well as a good stock. They even wipe the tyre down to remove the slippery
factory goo!
