Centre stand pin sheared on assembly

Waited weeks for my centre stand (on back order). Got it today and started fitting this evening. Got to stage 2 (fitting the spring pin) and the bloody thing sheared right off.
Now I know what 9Nm is (I'm a Rolls-Royce trained engineer), but this b'stard just sheared right off with a short spanner, before it was even "home" in the hole. My guess is it's a duff pin (over hardened) so I'll have to see what my dealer says tomorrow. Meanwhile, it's looking like a major job to get the sheared portion of thread out, or I'll just have to live without a centre stand.
Anyone else fitted one lately ? Anyone else had this problem ?

Not had the problem, as I'm still deciding which stand to buy.
Which manufacturer was it for my info. For my Pros and cons list.
May help my decision with more replies to your thread.

Over on Tigertriple someone pointed out to me the other day that the Triumph centerstand's weak point is the bolts. Apparently some folks go aftermarket just for that reason.

Genuine Triumph part. Looked at the shear through a jeweler's glass and the steel looks rotten and undercut. I'm absolutely certain it wasn't my ham fistedness that caused this. The bolt just didn't stop turning until it fell off.

Same thing happened to me Jonny, I'm sure mine was knackered as well, I returned the kit to the dealer who gave me a credit, I bought a paddock stand and spindles which I have always used in the past and would not have bothered with the centre stand had I known this was available.

A centerstand is still a really nice thing on extended trips when you need to do some maintenance or repairs along the way. I find adjusting and lubing a chain much easier on the road with a centerstand.

It can, of course, get in the way on really rutted roads and paths.

Well thats Triumph Genuine Part two nil down so far!
The Paddock stand is still available at £103 but as medic says not much use on the road.
Anyone out there using the SW Motech stand? thoughts please.
And any other other manufacturers ?

Tigg-ted, I still think the Triumph centre stand is better than SW. It's just this part that's let it down. If I could get the broken bit out, I would make a new pin (out of proper steel, not cheese) no prob.

jonnybiscuit,
I to believe that the Genuine Parts are normally of good quality, but no doubt such a part is sourced from elsewhere (Lowest Bidder)
And there are other references to Bolt problems with the Stand. Maybe Triumph will check the supplier and review them for the quality. Maybe a poll for stand problems would help to raise the point to them?

I recall there were posts some time back about this issue - bolts holding center stand, some issues with them.
