New Tiger w/o the Rear Cases?
I'm beginning to look for something lighter than my Kawa Concours C-14 ABS and recently had an opportunity to test ride a Tiger ABS at the Demo Days in Indianapolis. I was impressed. Nice bike with good power, suspension and brakes. It is also about the same weight as the V-Strom 650 ABS, another bike I've been looking at.
However, I was told that the Tiger ABS only comes with the factory rear cases. I can't buy it without them. I already have a set of aluminum cases (Jesse type) that I want to use on my next bike. They are larger and more convenient for my type of riding -- long distance touring and camping trips.
Does anyone know if there is a way I can buy a bike without the rear cases -- at a lower price naturally? Or, if not, is there a market for me to possibly sell the cases that come on the bike at a reasonable price?
Thanks in advance and ride safe.

According to the Triumph US website http://www.triumph.co.uk/usa the situation is same as UK.
Cases are standard on the Tiger SE but optional on the Standard Tiger. ABS is an option on the Std Tiger.

Thank you. That is the information I was looking for. I'll pursue that approach with the local dealer. Ride safe.
Edit: Interestingly enough, the Indy dealer told me that the Tiger ABS models only come with the rear cases. Apparently, he was not up to date.

If the other approach dosn't work. I sold my Triumph hardly used, panniers for a black Tiger 18 months ago on ebay. I was swapping to Trax alu boxes. The response I got was very good. I had 23 people watching over the course of a week. Enquiries from the US as well as the UK, requests to end the deal early, every time I logged on I had more questions and the bids had increased. Finally they sold for two thirds of the value.
I was happy, it substantially sub-sidised what I laid out in the conversion.
Of course there was also the hassel so no doubt you would prefer the other option.

Lil,
Thanks for your response. I had considered that approach as a last resort but did not know if there would be a market for "new" rear cases and mounting hardware. Sounds like there might be.
I also don't know if the rear cases for the Tiger are unique to that model but the Triumph dealer can give me that information.
Last, did the mounting brackets for your Trax alu cases come with your cases or from another supplier? The U.S. company that made my aluminum cases -- Moto-Sport Panniers -- has not yet developed brackets for the 1050 Tiger, although they have them for earlier 955i Tigers.
Edit: Does anyone know if the 955i and 1050 frames are similar enough so that the same rear case mounting hardware can be used?
Ride safe.

Right hand case is unique to Tiger 1050 as it is cutaway for the silencer. The left hand is same as Sprint. Believe both will fit a Sprint, just less capacity on Right hand case.
The frames on the 955 and 1050 Tigers are quite different so do not think the mounting hardware is interchangeable.

Once again, thanks for the information and prompt response. The high exhaust pipe causes a clearance/rear case capacity problem on the Tiger. Too bad.
Ride safe.

The mounts for the Trax Alu boxes came with the cases.
See this http://www.motohaus.com/acatalog/Tra..._adaptors.html
All the best

One thing to keep in mind on panniers....the locks are not replaceable...once installed, that's it. So, if you wind up with a deal where you are going to take the panniers, make sure the dealer does NOT install the locks. When one purchases a Tiger, three sets of locks come with the bike--two for the panniers and one for the top box. IMHO, one could get a much better price for the panniers if the lock has not been installed--also you won't have someone, somewhere with the same key that fits your ignition.

I believe that the panniers locks which come with the bike are identical to the ignition lock. My bike with Triumph panniers had new lock barrels in them so my pannier key was not the same as my ignition. Therefore when I sold, I passed all keys on and everyone was happy. It is therefore possible to replace the barrel of the pannier lock and with it the key. But obviously Redbird has a point.
