First ride.........interesting!

Picked the 1050 up on Friday, and rode straight to a rally in Scotland. First impressions were very favourable, fabulously smooth engine(compared to my previous bike anyway, but that was a Harley so it doesn't count), great suspension, mental brakes, oceans of power and lovely neutral handling. The rally was great fun, we even had sub zero temperatures on Saturday night! The ride home was uneventful until we were just South of Dumfries. A total loss of power meant I had to de-clu the engine, and coast to a halt. On trying to start the engine, I noticed with mounting alarm, a large pool of petrol on the ground. Hastily switching the ignition off, and moving the bike away, I sat down to think. Off with the seat to see what I could see! After much probing and poking about, I noticed fuel on the coupling under the tank. It clicked into place using finger and thumb, and power was restored! The other gripe concerns the seat. Who makes the best after market seat?

I guess it depends what you mean by best. You gotta try 'em out I guess.

The Triumph gel seat is supposed to be pretty good. There's the also the Corbin and Sargent seats too... Also, you could go down the custom route. There's plenty of options for ya!

Triumph currently has 3 gel seats available for the 1050 Tiger: the comfort seat which has a lot of gel, the low seat which has some amount of gel and is about 0.2" lower than the stock seat, and the high seat which has about as much gel as the low seat but is built up with more foam for a higher seating position.

I have a short inseam and bought the low seat thinking I would reduce seating height by maybe an inch. That's not the case. It's called a low seat only to distinguish it from the high seat.

However, I found the low seat so comfortable I couldn't part with it. I wasn't aware of the gel layer till later (see the Accessories pages on the Triumph.US site), so the extra comfort was a surprise. I'm coming from a F800GS which had a seat I found horribly uncomfortable after several hours, so this is heaven for me. On a 4 hour ride this past weekend I never once thought about the seat which I believe is the best recommendation anyone could hope for.

So before you spend the $$$ for a custom seat, see if you can find a dealer that has one of these 3 Triumph optional seats that you can try. Your anatomy may not be like mine, so the usual disclaimers apply: ymmv.

Sounds like the fuel coupling wasn't fully clicked into place in the first place but I would go to the dealer and have them compare yours to others in the show room. Could be that yours is faulty and needs a replacement. These fitments are made by "Colder Products" so don't automatically blame Triumph.

Seats? I have the Triumph gel on my 955i and it works great. Feels hard when you first sit on it but the numb bum never arrives.
