Please can some one help who has fitted these bars. I have a 2002 tiger which I have fitted with Touratech bars, the problem I am having is that the cross over bar at the front is actually touching the front exhaust cross over pipe. I admit it is just touching but is this correct?? am afraid that over time it could through vibration crack the exhaust headers!!!.

The bottom mounting points on both sides have two different shaped mounts R.E.M's as they call them. from the photo,s they have provided you cannot tell which one go's which side, i have put the one with a small cut out on the right side so as the rad hose do's not rub on it is this correct.

Thanks for your help !!!!!

Hi,

Interestingly I have just had the same problem on an 05 Tiger. See the link below.

However I do not think the problem was there with the OEM can.

I suspect when I was fitting the Blueflame can (to ensure it cleared the pannier correctly) I inadvertently forced the down pipes slightly forward.

Although there is a slight clearance (4mm) when cold as the exhaust heated the crossover pipe contacted the touratec bar and has actually melted the plastic coating.

I appear to have solved the problem by packing two stainless steel penny washers between the touratec main bars and cross over bar. I tried to add up to 4 washers per side to increase the clearance but I could not rebolt them back together again, hence only 2. I also junked the alloy hexhead bolts in favour of stainless steel.

I did start to investigate if the exhaust would pull back slightly and I reckon it will, but you appear to have to remove the rear brake assembly to get at the engine bolt that also holds the exhaust downpipes. I didn't get this far as I would have had to torque it all back up again. Worth trying if all else fails.

Everybody appears to have had the same problems fitting these bars.

You appear to have fitted them correctly, but the link below explains all.

Regards

Chris
