I am just considering entering the 21st century and buying a Tiger. I currently own a Norton Commando (for 20 years) and a Honda Dominator as well as a 1949 Model 18 Norton in bits but feel the time may have come to rationalise things. I have been looking at the early model Tigers as I prefer their styling but as I read more it seems that the 955i is probably a better machine. I have just looked at an April 03 model with 3,500 miles(!!) on the clock for £5,000. Does this seem to a reasonable buy? What should I look out for?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

"What should I look out for?"

A good road to ride it on.

Does this seem to a reasonable buy?

Average retail in the States would be $6,695 USD according to the NADA guide.

NADA Tiger price

Yep arrange a test ride, bargain with the dealer on cost or accessories (worst they can say is no) and enjoy. The Tiger will be substantially different from your current/past steeds though.

You're absolutely right KuzzinKenny - just come back from a test ride & put the deposit down...... Lovely bike and I can't wait to pick it up. It's kind of like a cross between the Honda and the Norton - nice sitting up riding position with a lovely torquey engine (although I have to say the engine seems even better than the Norton twin). Although I can feel some vibration - a shame that Triumph couldn't have taken over the Isolastic system and updated it. Ended up at £4800 for a 1 year old, 5000 miles with panniers and centre stand, and a 6K service and new back tyre thrown in. Seems a reasonable deal to me.
