A couple of people have said they were interested to see what I had say about my new 05 Tiger when I finally got it. I bought this bike without ever having seen one. I depended a lot on the info I saw posted on the Tiger forum. Thanks for that folks. Well I'm just over 200 miles into the bike now and liking it a lot, in general. I live on dirt roads, so I appreciate the suspension being good enough to take dirt, potholes, etc. at fast speeds. Ocassionally I have to get up out of the seat to add a little shock adsoption, but that's O.K. I wish the tank were not quite so gangly, but I can live with that. Today I took it down a couple miles of lava rock trail ( The kind that my wife on the back said "You sure you want to go down there".). We were heading to a favorite fresh/saltwater snorkeling place that I normally take my old 4WD truck to. It did pretty well on the medium size loose rock. On sand and smaller loose rock, not so good. Possibly too heavy for that. We made it in with only a few slips and slides. On the way out I was trying to take it too easy on my wife and hit a small lava climb a little too slow. So, I dropped it already. Luckily no tank scratches. Just a few on one of the panniers. I got off very easy. Snapped part of a footpeg off too. Looks like they are made of pretty crappy metal. Probably gonna cost a bunch for a new one. None of this would have happened had I been riding single. I would have had the speed and momentum to go up and over with no problem. Overall, it is a very stable bike for being so tall. Rides nice on the highway and slides straight when you lock up the back brakes. Seems like it will have a lot of get up and go once I can open up the revs a bit. Got a couple of Harley friends just dying to have a go at it. The orange color gets a lot of attention. I've never ridden anything before and had a car pull up to me in traffic and say "Nice bike man." which happened yesterday. Exhaust sounds like #*&$#$#. I suppose I'll get used to riding a sewing machine. Windscreen is pretty useless normally, but it does deflect rain if you duck down behind it. Lots of rain here! However, I would not want a taller one. I don't want to make this bike any bigger than it already is. Killer horn! Have not had a chance to ride at night yet to check the lights, but in my driveway they look very bright. It's a***** to get up on the centerstand. Gearing seems a little too low. Can't really tell for sure until I can wind it up a little more. And, it winds very quickly! Possibly one of the best things about this bike is this forum support group. Quick answers to any questions and that is really helpful. If I come up with anything else worth mentioning I'll write on the subject again.

You are a better man than I,

I might ride the roads you are talking about, but not two up on a brand new machine. Wow.

You might concider engine guards if you will be going off road a bunch. I use the ones by Ma's cycle and feel the protect the bike very well.

Is she still pissed you dropped her? I'm talking about you wife, not the bike. Mine still hold a grudge over a little laydown that happened six years ago. She is just finally starting to ride with me again.

All in all, it souds like you have summed up the Tiger pretty well.

Congrats on the new toy.

hawaiiride,

The Tiger is a great all around bike but as you have experienced it is top heavy and when she starts to go over she will go over. I bought my Silver 05 back in March and I dropped it just backing out of the driveway. Get some engine guards they will help. I have the Touratech one's http://www.touratech-usa.com/shop/index.lasso and they work great.

Good luck with your ride and enjoy.

The Triumph Sport pipe will cure that.

Glad you like the Tiger. 200 miles is nothing for that engine. You'll see big improvements as it loosens up. Don't expect it to be fully loosened up 'til she's done 6,000 plus. But that's not an excuse to be gentle, 'cos she thrives on hard work, and she'll be all the stronger for it.
Treat youself to the Triumph "sport" can.
Getting her up on the centre stand shouldn't be a problem if you show her who's boss. Right foot on the stand, crack it down to the ground, hoik her up by the n/s rear peg bracket and she's up.

Ed- My wife was reasonably O.K. with being dumped off. No real damage done other than a couple of scrapes. I got scraped worse, so I got the sympathy vote! I had warned her it might happen and that it will happen again. I make her wear better protective gear than I wear because I feel the driver can see it coming and has more of a chance of preparing.

Man, that's what I hate about taking girls snorkling in Hawaii.
