Hi lads, I am after another Top Box that will sit further back than my exsiting Triumph one, I have bought a Corbin seat and with the Standard box fitted the Pillion will not be comfortable.

Someone mentioned that I could buy a Givi TB that has a mounting plate that is partially adjustable, any ideas.

I noticed in the Album section Bigstripey has a Givi does this sit further back than the standard TP.

Any help appreciated,

Mutley

Givi is one solution. Makes the box sit slightly higher.
Another is to modify the front hook on the box slightly so it will hook up with the second crossbar on the rack instead of first. Then you make a wide U-shape from stainless or cromed tube approx 10-12mm thick. The U should fit under the rack and protrude at the rear so you get a hold for the rear locking hook.
To mount the U-shaped tube to the carrier, file openings that fit the tube diameter at the rear of rack,1 each side, then drill two holes in each leg of the tube and bolt it up underneath the rack(you have to drill through the rack. Use countersunck stainless screws inserted from above) - protruding at the rear enough to compensate for the amount you moved the front mounting rearwards.
Best o'luck. This one actually works - got it from the dealer I bought the bike from.
If in doubt, PM your fax-number and I'll send you a sketch

Hi Hayduke,

Wow that looks a possibility although it looks like its about to fall off :-D , is it yours and does it work/stability as I carry up to the maximum weight oin the TB, I presume its on the Givi adjustable plate.

I did email Corbin on Monday but they have not bothered to reply which is a bit of a dissapointment :???:

Thanks

Mutley

The BRG with Givi belongs to Buswhacker who is often on this site. He swears it's stable like that, but I watched it bob a bid when we were riding. He compromised and moved it to the next setting, but he kept it like that for almost 1000 miles with two offroad stretches and it was fine. He had it loaded too.

Send him a PM if you want more info.

I installed a SHAD (http://www.shad.es) topcase, which is basically a GIVI knock-off. My 46L topcase fits well with my Corbin. The SHAD is about 1/2 the price of the GIVI. My g/f says it's very comfy back there. I did also get the back pad.

IMHO, top boxes are overrated. Looks like a mushroom sprouted on your ass. What you need is a good sturdy tray, then load your stuff in a soft waterproof river bag or duffel. It is much more versatile; expands and contracts to fit the load; makes a good backrest if you load it right; and it is easy to take into the hotel. Hold it down with the bungee cargo nets. You can tuck odds and ends onto the load, like tent poles, water bags, day packs, etc. And when you don't want a big tumor on the back of your bike, it's gone. It's totally the berries around town for shopping. End of rant.

Here's my version (there are some so-so pics of the tray loaded with camping gear). You could come up with many other versions.

Tob box alternative

Robbie did a really nice one for Mohan, if I recall. I can't find it in the album. It didn't have sides.

Good point - - fortunately nobody in Alaska ever steals anything. Right. We do have to worry about bears getting into stuff, but by the time Griz has done a dance on your top box, you might as well start hitchiking home.

At least as to the OEM topcase, anybody with ten seconds and a screwdriver can pop the latches. I wouldn't rate them as much more secure than a good hypalon bag. If you are worried about theft, I reckon an aluminum box is about the only thing that rates.
