There's a half hour round-up on Eurosport every night.

Has anyone watched the Charley Boorman series "Race to Dakar"? If you can get past the annoying bits (like Charley singing the theme song, and every day saying "It's so f-ing hard, f-ing hell, it's just a nightmare") it gives a good inside look at what the Dakar is all about. And just how brutal an event it is.

I've always been a big fan of the rally, pretty interesting to see bits of it up close and personal.

Hi JB,

Yes, I watched the Charley Boorman "Race to Dakar" - great program.

Not only do you have to get up at the crack of dawn, to ride on sand at highway speeds all day, but you have to strip the bike and fix it before you go to bed

I've never ridden on loose sand at those sorts of speeds, so massive respect to them

Absolutely, I can't imagine riding at high speeds in deep sand, but these guys do it for days. In past encounters, deep sand and I haven't gotten on too well.

I suppose Charley had the advantage of having mechanics to work on the bikes (nice modified HP-2's). The other poor blokes doing the Dakar on their own had to do it themselves. Impressive.

The scenes where the cars were catching up to the bikes were amazing and downright frightening.....but the big lorries were cool!
