I am sure these minor niggles I have in fitting the Touratech Engine Protection Bars have all been overcome before.

The instructions have clearly been converted from German to English and hence are a bit confusing.

One of the L shaped brackets is slightly bent and has a cut out at the corner. I have fitted it to the left side (whilst sitting on the bike) is this correct?

The instructions say 'the left side rear attachment is still supported with the two enclosed 12mm washers'. Gobledy Gook to me!!! I have used the two washers just in front of the captive nut which prevents the clutch cable from fouling the nut. Is this correct?

The cap head screw which fixes to the engine casing and holds the left hand bracket actually touches the water hose to the radiator. There is a risk of the hose being worn through by the screw. The consequences of dumping the cooling water whilst out on a ride through the hose being worn through is rather concerning. I created a gap by adjusting the hoses on the radiator and water pump housing. Is this a common problem? Is there another fix? Has everybody with with Touratech bars checked there hoses recently?

The stylings nice and they look as if they would protect the casings and tank in a spill. However I have read that the lower rubber mount can shear of. I guess the rubber mount is the optimum solution as without it the casings could be stressed in a spill and crack. Has anybody done any mods?

My size 55 torx sockets have 3/8" drives. My torque wrench has 1/2" drive, hence I couldn't torque the engine bolts to 95Nm as recommended. I am sure a 1/2" to 3/8" drive adapter must be made hence I will do some investigating. 95Nm is a good swing, hence I did them up as tight as I could. Have I got any problems on the horizon whilst I look for an adapter?

Stainless fixings would have been nice, but I guess I am just nit picking now.

I have now found a solution to mounting the pair of fiamm horns I bought. There is no room to mount 1 horn let alone 2 fiamm's where the existing horns is. However the Touratech bars have a length of flat bar close to the radiator. A small hole drilled in each bar will enable the fiamms to be fitted. I can now give the old biddies a scare if they walk out in front of me!!!

Chris

Chris,

I must say I didn't have any problems fitting the bars to my bike, and certainly none of the clearance problems you have.

I have a combined 1/2"/3/8" reversible torque wrench a handy piece of kit.

Why did you fit the horns?.

The horn on tango was pathetic but I tuned it and it now sounds like a horn should.

Thanks for the link.

The pictures are the exact answers to the questions I had.

I have the 12mm washers in the wrong place. I will change them over tomorrow.

It would seem I am not the only person who has found the Touratech instructions vague.

I haven't actually fitted the horns yet, but as Davie has stated the OEM horn is pathetic.

I like a horn that when I want to give a warning it does the job properly. The fiamms do just that.

In the past on my 400/4 and 550/4 F2 Hondas I used air horns, they really work.

Modern bikes with fairings just don't have the space to even fit the compressor let alone a pair of trumpets.

Hence a pair of electromagnetic fiamms are the next best thing.

I see the torque problem can be solved with a combination torque wrench. At £20+ for a new torque wrench an adapter, should they be available at say £2 will do me!!!!

Chris

Get yourself down to Halfords, they do a twin pack of adapters in their proffesional range of tools, 1/2" to 3/8" & 3/8" to 1/4" good kit gauranteed for life too, dont know how they define life though, they don't quible about replacing broken stuff eather, I ripped the head off of one of their samson bars (split the jaws) when tightening a wheel nuts on a tractor, "yes sir here is a replacement," was the comment.

I have the big Halfords professional set. Its got everything and there is not much I cannot fix with it. Except it does not have the adapters. I agree that the quality is excellent and as you advise they guarantee the components for life.

I have not actually tested the guarantee, but a mate has and he reported the same response as you. Halfords did not quibble at all.

It was where I was going to look for one, but now I know that I can actually get them I'll be down there in the next few days.

Thanks for the info
