So I had my first flat on my 2016 800 XCX. Had to pull the rear wheel at night by the road, first time on a Triumph. Went by the next day to make sure I hadn't dropped a tool and found this clip where I did the change. Looks like it fits the caliper somehow but I can't figure it out. The clip that should be in the top of the caliper IS there, however.
Any ideas where this goes? Braking seems normal but this makes me nervous.
It looks like a clip that goes on the brake caliper hanger - Once you remove the caliper, you should be able to see it but I didn't take my caliper off to double check. And It doesn't seem to show on the parts fiches, but it can be seen in Muddy Sump's video on Tiger rear tire removal:
He points the part out at about the 2:00 minute mark of the video.
Thanks for the reference! I had even watched that video a few times to figure out how to take off the wheel the first time. It took me a few more times to watch around the point you mentioned to spot the part in place. When I get home tonight, I'll pull the caliper off and see if I can put it back.
My guess is it must have some kind of anti-rattle function, it doesn't seem big enough to do anything else...
Just to close this out, that clip did fit onto the leading edge of the caliper mount where the front of the pads hang. Mystery solved and thanks Paulf for the quick help!
I believe that clip is to stop the actually caliper material from wearing as the pads get forced into the caliper on braking.
