Chain and Sprockets

Has anyone replaced their chain and sprockets yet?

Mine is coming up, not quite yet, but soonish, so I'm looking around at alternatives. So far, I'm leaning with just going with the OEM Triumph kit. It's 211 bucks from bike bandit, so my dealer will likely be similar in price.

Usually I can get better (higher strength rating - and gold coloured oooooooh!) chains via amazon.com for a lot cheaper, but it's not working out that way this time.

Has anyone come up with any aftermarket alternatives?

I have 20,000 miles on this chain, and it's still holding up well. No real tight spots or anything, and it's not stretched to its service limit yet, but it's starting to get there, so I want to get parts in and ready.

24K mile service won't be far off, so I need to get air filter and cam cover seals etc in anyway.

Are you thinking of changing up the gearing/tooth count while you're at it?

Actually no. I am happy with how the bike runs, so I was just going to leave it as is.

Not sure what year you have. My question would be if you go with after market parts before the two year warranty is up would that void any support from triumph?

I hadn't thought about that aspect to be honest. I don't see why it would.

I think the warranty is actually 2 years / 24K miles right? In which case, since I think I will do this at the 24K mark, it doesn't matter much. Mine is a 2011XC. One of the first ones in Mn.

However, it looks like the OEM kit is a pretty good value based on the research I have done, I have ordered it.

No, absolutly not why would it? That would be like voiding the warrantee for installing diferent brand of tire.
If the new chain or sprocket failed (not likely) obviously that's not covered.

I've ordered a chain and sprocket kit from my dealer. 211 bucks, same as Bike Bandit.

I haven't been able to beat the price significantly with known good quality aftermarket brands. This is mainly because the chain is quite long (124 links) and most chains seem to be available up to 120 links, and then jump to 150 - which is pricey. Then the cost of the sprockets......anyway, it was clear that the value is reasonable so this time I'm just going OEM. Easy peasy.

With a bit more searching I bet I could do better, but good enough for now.
