Triumph Top Box

hello everyone. i just picked my Tiger 800 XC up yesterday! im super excited. i want my first "luggage" purchase to be a top box of some sort. i am really leaning torwards the Triumph Top Box because i will eventually get the Pannier kit. Has anyone used the top box yet? If so do you have the back rest pad? how comfortable is it for the passenger?

edit: i found some info in "Tiger Chat" i would still like to see some reviews specific to the top box here. Thanks...

Mine will be here tomorrow and I'll install it tomorrow night. I won't have the back rest pad though seeing I don't carry passengers on a regular basis. I do have the Triumph panniers and so far I like them a lot.

Well it's all installed. I took my time and it took about an hour. The worst part was drilling the 25mm holes through the old plastic rack. Luckily I had a 1" holesaw that worked perfect.

I just got in and saw your post. I'll have a sit on the back tomorrow and see how it seems. Like I said though, I don't have the backrest pad so I can only tell you how it feels for sitting position.

I have a Givi 30 liter topcase for my Sprint ST 1050 and a mounting plate that came with it (un-used since I had to install a monorack kit for the Sprint, which included a plate) that I plan to mount to the Tiger rear rack with a homemade adapter plate. I prefer the topcase for my daily commute, over the side panniers on either bike. Just feels better, more compact. The Tiger panniers will hold much more than the Sprint ST panniers, but I don't need that much room on a daily basis. Add that to the fact that I have all the stuff, and the tools to cobble up an adapter plate, and it's all good.

LOL, yes the box is huge but that is the point really. It's not real wide which I like. As it is now I can just slightly see it when I look in the mirrors. I don't think I'd like some of the wider boxes just for the fact it blocks my mirror view. I would have to assume that is why Triumph made it the dimensions it is. I'm sure due to safety reasons that had to keep it narrow and just go taller.

Keep in mind that the sliding carriage lets the box move side to side about 3/4" to 1" when buying it.

i went back today and bought the case. i love it. i had a V-Strome back in 2006 that i had side hard cases on and it really made it hard to fit between things. i even found myself hugging the center line on the highway because they stuck out and i would forget about them. i went and rode about 150 miles with the top case after i installed it and was able to fit in the same places as before. it was super nice! so far i am sold! tomorrow im going down to southern missouri to do some fishing. i will post some pics. i think my waders will fit in the box nicely!

I tested my Triumph top box and panniers in about 1500 miles of rain. They didn't leak in one drop of water. I'm loving my storage set up.
