Explorer Tyres

Has anyone tried any other tyres on the Explorer yet?
I noticed the 800 Tiger wears different rubber than the 1200 and there seem to be a few choices with Conti, Pirelli, Michelin and Skanko, all doing sizes to fit the 1200.

Thumbs up

Several guys on the Explorer forum are using PR3's for road tires, and a couple others are using Heidenau K60's for a 50/50 mix. Twisted Throttle has their TEX tricked out with TKC80's...

i had Michelin PR3's on my last bike and really liked them. As soon as I wear out the oem metzler's, I will put the PR3's on my TEx as well (i'm on-road all the time).

I will be going with the PR3's as well. I have them on my 1050 and love them. I probably won't wait to wear out the OEM's as the noise drives me crazy.

Michelin Anakee 3 Tires

I have 8500 miles on the OEM tires and still have about 1500-2000 miles left on them - been good tires, no major issues. Unfortunately I will be taking off for a seven day tour throughout Utah, at the end of May, and will not risk running out of tire in the middle of the trip. So I am going to replace them "early" with the new Michelin's and see how they work (and for how long). Would love to get 12,000 miles out of them and then replace them at the big 20,000 mile service (anyone want to buy a kidney?).

Michelin Anakee 3

I am 8,200 miles. I measured the Tourance EXP and the front was 2/32 the rear slightly better. As I am planning a lengthy road trip I decided to get new tires and the 10k service (a bit early). I really looked hard at Heidenau but wasn't sure if they would be good for a long distance highway trip. So, in the end I decided to try Anakee 3. I will check back in at the end of summer and give my review.

I must be doing something wrong. I only have 5200 miles on oem tires and will not make 6000.
Maybe I am having too much fun!

Thinking of trying Conti Trail Attack tires. Has anyone used these?
