Just read an article in Motorcycle Consumer News (November 2012) that using Nye Damping Grease (#774VH) provides friction between the handlebar and the inside of the twist-grip so that the throttle is not so "sensitive".

Seems like a good idea just was wondering if anyone has tried this "cure" or if they have any better ideas to make the Explorer's throttle a little less sensitive (or twitchy).

Triumph apparently knows that this is a problem "To cure the on/off throttle abruptness that was a common complaint on the Explorer, the Trophy’s throttle-by-wire was re-calibrated for less sensitivity" (Rider, December 2012).

So is Triumph going to "fix" this "problem" on our bikes?

I've read somewhere on a TEX forum that dealers now have an updated tune they can download which will cure the sensitive throttle. Your dealer should be able to let you know whether you can get it downloaded for free.

there has been a lot of talk/discussion on the tiger-explorer.com forums about the dampening grease from nye. some people speak very favorably of its results. i've been tempted to try it, but at the same time i've gotten pretty used to the throttle. 5th gear is about the only one that ever gives me any jerkiness over bumps. to me, 5th feels more sensitive at speed than other gears.

the new trophy, which shares the same engine as our bike, has a different throttle setting. this was done to help alleviate the "jerkiness" experienced by any on the tex. this is likely what KevB is referencing. i do not know if dealers can update our ecu with the trophy's settings. well, i'm sure they *could* but i'm not sure if they will, i have not asked my dealer.

My dealer still insists that there is no new map for the TEX.

I have a bit over 3500 miles on my TEx. At first the sensitive throttle was rather annoying.However, I have really become used to it and it is not an issue at all anymore. I also have a big & heavy Yamaha Touring bike with the standard cable throttle and that almost feels mushy to me now. So if your TEx is new to you you may want to give it some time.
