I am sooo in lust with my new to me Tex! The guy that bought my bike new, as a launch addition added more goodies, including Nomada aluminum panniers and tail box. He only put 1500 miles on the bike in one year. Poor schmuck had over $23K into the bike and sold it to me for $13K. I talked to the service manager at his dealer and the guy spent too much time reading the forrums about all the "problems" the bike has. Screw that, this is my third Triumph triple and the engines make noise - so what! I have put 1400 miles on it in 4 weeks, including two 150+ mile cannon runs on some of the best cycling roads in the universe. This bike does everything! I actually feel more confident carving corners on the Tex than I did on my 1050 Sprint. Last Saturday I exchanged bikes with my buddy for 5 miles, he has a Multistrada 1100S. I couldn't wait to get back on my Tex.

Life is good!

I don't own the Tex but ride a 2011 Tiger 800.
Haven't test rode one either but was taking to my dealer yesterday about trading
Still on the fence whether to go tex.
Been making lists of positive vs negitives.
One major disadvantage is weight. Tex is 100 pounds heavier.
Suppose it turns into a plus on the hwy.
I like the fact the text is slightly taller than the 800.
It's maybe not as attractive as the 800 but that's personal.
What draws me to the tex is shaft drive, 135 hp & torque, traction control, and cruise.
Anyone offer any other insights to help me decide.
Little disappointed with the trade value of my bike.
Dealer claimes he has to offer me next years evaluation because it's the end of year & he has to assume my bike will sit all winter.
He is knocking off a thousand off the tex though. So that's a wash.

I was prepared to get a new 800XC. I had test ridden one in the fall of 2011 @ our local dealer 3 different times and had my wife with me the 3rd time to be sure it was enough bike to carry 400lb. of riders. I had decided I would purchase a new 2012 model the next spring. When I told my dealer my plans, he mentioned that he had just received official word that the TEX would be available in 2012. I started reading everything I could about them & in January I told him I would take one of the 3 he had on order.

That was the best decision I have ever made on a bike purchase. Everything about the TEX is better (for me) than the 800 would have been. The things you mentioned about the TEX are all good.

If you ride double much, the TEX is fantastic. If you are 6' or more & weigh at least 180 - 200 lb. the height & weight of the TEX will not be a problem. I'm 6'4" & 240 lb. and the TEX just fits me better than the 800.

Triumph did have a head issue with most of the ones that have been built, but that has been resolved with a head replacement & an extra 12 mo. warranty on the engine.

PM me if you have any additional questions. I'll be happy to answer any doubts you may have or point you to someone who can answer anything I'm not sure of.

Jon do you know if the 2014's have any changes other than color?
I was told the 2014 colors are white & grey.
They dropped black & blue.
Dealer is knocking a grand off the 2013 model doubt that he would do that for a 2014.

Someone just posted a small change on the Explorer forum for the '14' models, but this old memory can't remember what it was. I don't have time to check right now, but if I remember to check after work I'll get back to you on that.

At some point Triumph changed the tank badge from a lacquered self adhesive decal to a 3-D aluminum badge. I am not sure if that was introduced late 2013 or new for 2014.

I am not aware of any other differences.

Sorry Cburt. I searched for quite a while for the post on a supposed change for the '14' models, but the only thing I could find was a rumor that Triumph is going to place the CC buttons by the left grip to make it easier to set. That was not the change I was trying to remember...

Thanks for checking. I'm stopping by the dealer tomorrow & have another good look at the black 1200.
My 800 left me stranded today because I accidentally left the parking lights on for a half hour.
Suspect the battery is getting past its prime.
