Got a weird issue with my TBird wondered if anybody could offer some suggestions to check. Was riding home Sunday in about 35 degree weather and suddenly the ABS light comes on, and the speedo and tach shut off. Bike dies about a mile or two later and won't start. Has no charge in the battery.

Send wife to Wal*Mart to get a new battery and it fires back up. At this point I'm thinking alternator, and it's going to die again in 20 or 30 minutes. I make it the 90 minutes home with no problems. I notice as I get home the horn doesn't work either, not sure if its related. Checked fuses and leads to horn, everything looks good.

Bike is fairly new only had it 4 months, and about 2500 miles.

Also don't know how long the horn has been out, since it's not something I use everyday. Could have been out for a while. Just seemed weird that it was out around the same time so thought it was worth mentioning.

if you got it brand new.. would suggest get to the dealer with a warranty claim check. i dont know whats the operating temp of the bike supposed to be but surely its better than 35F

Ya I already called the dealer, just trying to see if anybody ran into it before so they don't just tell me its a bad battery and it happens again in a couple weeks.

Well... even if it is something as simple as a "bad battery".. at only 4 months old.. the battery should be covered under warranty too.

Ya they told me there is a 6 month warranty on the battery. I hope its something that simple, but just seems strange for it to die that quick.

Doesn't matter what it is. An electrical issue on any modern vehicle could make you crazy. I suggest you turn that 'Bird over to the dealer and let them worry about it.

I had a very similar problem with my Yasau battery this weekend. I went to start my bike and nothing. I use a and saw 6.7 volts. I jumped it and it started and I saw 13.5 volts so I knew the charging system was putting out. I got back and figured I had left the parking light on under the cover.. Yesterday again dead and 7 volts. Battery had a dead cell and was bad but it was 2 years old. I suggest getting a digital volt meter like the one above to keep and eye on your bike charging system and battery. I also now carry a Startmonkey 200 as it seems everywhere I ride someone has a dead battery. Startmonkey is a Lithium Iron 2lb start jumper pack that has a lot of smarts and worth checking out for a long or short bike trip. I used it yesterday to start a Road Glide.

Bigguy is right, that's a dealer problem. Let them worry about it regardless of what the root cause is.
