I recommend a battery tender. I always use one now and my battery life has doubled.

My bike has been on a Tender since day 1 and if I'm on a long rotation of a few months then I have a friend start it a few times a month.

I have a few bikes and my 2008 Kaw has the original battery. My wives Suzuki had her Yasua battery croak after 7 months but we got a free one. I would have expected at least 3 years with a tender but it's not happening. A few of my friends report the same thing and agree it's best just to get a new battery every 2 years.

I would like to get more years so I switched to the Odyssey brand battery and will report back in 5 years! I had to get a very expensive new tender.

Almost went Shorai Lithium but they are too new and unprooven for years. Odessey has been out for a while and has a good track record. Lithium batts also need a specialized tender.

Sucks to get stranded.

Cool thanks a lot, took it to the dealer, so hoping for an update by the end of the week.

Well you are right about batteries not being what they used to be. But sometimes you just get a bad one. I have had them last 2 years and some 5 years. No way to know up front.

Just curious. Do you use a tender even if you are riding daily? I use one for storage but that's the only time. Seems like a tender isn't necessary if you are using the bike daily or even several times a week.

for what it's worth my local dealer recommended using the tender after 2 weeks of sitting.

My problem ended up being the rectifier, luckily I got it replaced on warranty. I'm going to ride it for a few days and hopefully that truly was the problem like they believe.
