Angry Quick Release Windscreen My Foot (or other body part)

I've read a lot of threads on the forum about how difficult it is to remove the "quick release" windscreen. Remove it? It's just as hard to install it! I pushed, I tapped, I pounded, I pried the latches up, I greased the locking studs and latches. Finally, I loosened all four locking studs, smacked the windscreen on with the palm of my hand and then re-tightened the studs. I can't wait until I go to remove this thing!

I also bought the lock kit. Kind of a waste since whoever wants to steal this thing will need a crowbar ...

Sorry about your troubles. Is that the Triumph windscreen? I had a National Cycle Switchblade Deflector on a previous bike (and just ordered another for my 'Bird) that worked exactly as advertised. So if you'll be looking for a replacement and still want something removable, National Cycle has a ton of Switchblade system-compatible options.

Thanks Ed.

It is the Triumph screen and it's bought, paid for and installed, so it's a done deal.

This is not the first Triumph factory accessory that I've had fit problems with. The two person cruiser saddle was also difficult to fit, requiring some widening of the side bracket holes. One might guess that those who made the machine could get the accessories right.

Thanks for the suggestion.

On my R3T it took me mere seconds to remove the screen.

I'm sure, as it is supposed to on mine. Any suggestions on how to remedy it? Also - yes it is installed correctly.

I removed mine as soon as I got home, so everything was brand spankin' new. I'd suggest probably a bit of WD40 or Silicone lubricant.

When I got home I merely grabbed the release bars, pulled up and off she came (thankfully the finance guy demoed the removal process for me...)

Mine was stupidly tight when I got it. Mine was a demo and I don't think the screen had ever been off. I thought the friggen screen was going to break the first time I tried to remove it. It will eventually loosen up to a reasonable level with use.

Well, this is not ideal, but if you must take the screen off, you can loosen the allen bolts on the sides of the bracket that pins the windshield in place on the top left and right spools, if you loosen them, it is much easier to slip the windshield off without worrying about breaking it, just remember to tighten the allen bolts back up

Mine had been installed incorrectly by the dealer and would not come off. I de-installed the hardware and reinstalled correctly and now she pops right off with little effort.

I installed mine per instructions and I don't see how it can be installed incorrectly. What did the dealer do and how did you remedy that?

Thanks
