Throttle Sticking Issue - Malformed Handle Bar

I've had an issue with my throttle sticking since taking delivery but it initially started out as an occasional annoyance and nothing that really concerned me as it was so infrequent and would spring back as it should if I totally lifted my hand. However, lately it seemed to increase in frequency and severity and actually required me to twist the throttle back as it wouldn't spring back on its own. I'm not sure if the dropping temperatures have anything to do with the increased throttle sticking but it had definitely gotten to the point where it became a prominent issue as I rode.

I asked my mechanic to take a look at while I had it in for my BC pipes installation. He told me that when he took the throttle assembly off he noticed that the handle bar had an anomaly; "a semi-squaring" of the bar as he described it where the throttle slides, which was preventing it from springing back properly. He filed the handle bar down and now it seems to have enough clearance to operate nicely.

Here's the thing, he said he ordered me a new handle bar under warrenty work and discovered that the handle bars for our TBirds are on back order. This raised his eyebrows a bit because it may be an indication that it's a pretty wide-spread issue requiring others to order replacements, which would cause a back order situation.

So, if any of you guys are experiencing any throttle sticking you may want to take them apart and file down the bar and contact your dealer for a replacement.

Bizzare ! haven't heard of this yet so it's probably not real common. But if not then it begs the question why the backorder? Could just be they're short for not particular reason i suppose. Glad you got it sorted tho....hate to see something horrible happen because of that.

Yeah. The mechanic said it looked like a manufacturing flaw and possibly limited to a very few of them.

It's surprising what a difference it makes when the throttle is springing back as it should. Funny how you subconciously get used to an anomaly... kinda like that frog in a pot of water, eh? I really had no idea how bad it was and I realized I didn't have to raise my hand completely off the throttle when shifting gears..

Hey Hypervista,

What about BC pipes vs. the short Triumph version, any documented difference?

I know BC sounds great (utube)!

AZfun - check this thread for a fairly complete discussion on the short pipes. I don't think there are any comparisons between the BC pipes and the Triumph short pipes yet. Too early.

Backorder on a stock part could just be an issue of production needs. If they are building more birds they need the bars. I've not heard anything about any throttle issues before this.

Glad the bird is back in order... of course now that you've got those BC pipes on there something tells me the throttle is staying is mysteriously 'sticking' even more than before.

i wouldn't read anything into them being on back order, when i worked for Renault i was given a decent discount on a new car, it was the Mk2 new clio, after having the car only a few weeks it would refuse to warm start, some times you would have to wait 3 hours for it to completely cool, as you can imagine a short trip to the shop became impossible, it was found to have a faulty ECU, as the car had only just been released there were no spare unit available, all were allocated for production models, i had to wait 4 months in the end for one to be made available, i was given a brand new courtesy car for use until mine was fixed, i did not mind to much as i put 8k on there clock rather than mine.
