Well I picked up a 2m length of 38mm pipe today, after two hours I had manufactured 2 bypass pipes, I wanted to have bent ones however I have no way of producing these my self so for mk1 pipes I cut and welded them, the first one went well but is not 100% the rite angle, the second was better, both have been fitted and the bike has been fired up, all I can say is hmmmm nice, sounds very deep, still lots of popping.

I have pictures and video to post later.

Mad Angler,
You seem to be a little bit ahead of me at this stage .I am still sourcing the tubing.
The rumble I had when I started it without the mufflers was quite good. Now that you have dropped the box off and replaced with a short bypass tube on both sides are you getting the good rumbling noise from the standard mufflers going back on ...or... are you running the short Tors.
I will keep at it and let you know my progress, off to borrow a pipe bender from a mate shortly.
Cheers.
Steve

Can't wait for the next update !!! Thanks to all who are the trailblazers for the pitiful rest of us. If we can find what differences there are in the R3 mapping between the cat bypass tune and stock that might be helpful in getting this mod working optimally once the tuneboy is out.

Rite, sorry all for the cryptic last few hours i have been out and posting from my mobile so could not give the full story

as i stated today i purchased 2 meters of exhaust pipe, i finished work a bit early so set out to begin the task, for the last 24 hours i have been trying to think of ways to bend the pipe my self however this is not something i can do with the equipment i have so i settled with cutting the pipe with two angles and welding them together, at first i was not really happy with method as i would not have a clean bend for the gasses to flow around but one i mocked up the first pipe i realises it was less of an angle than i first thought so it wont be a problem.

the first mockup.

as you can see this is my first mockup, once i was happy with the angle i proceeded to weld the two parts together, one thing i was having problems with was my Mig, it was having none of it, i could not get the power/wire speed rite, it was either blowing holes in it or building on top, so please excuse my welding.

Next completed welded pipe

its functional rather than pretty at this stage,i have ground all the welds back and its better in the end but still far from perfect, on the MK2 i need to sort my mig out or possibly invest in a Tig, this is the excuse i need

finally the completed pair, please ignore one is longer as i have not cut its final length yet, both have had some heavy grinding but still fare from perfect.

after completing them i fitted them to the bike, sounds very nice, a lovely deep rumble to the pipes, please note these are the Standard long pipes not TOR, definitely louder but more low end sound, due to the weather being very wet i did not take it out for a run, thats tomorrows job,

so where from here, well i have decided to give-up on the BC pipes, the cost to bring them into the UK is going to be to much i think, i am now going to order the long TOR as these are straight though pipes anyway and use them with the de-cat and dyno it my self once tune boy is available.

oh and one last thing i made a vid, sorry i do not have a with cat version, did not think about that, i have to get the pipes back off tomorrow so if i can be bothered i will refit the cat and do a before and after for you lovely folks.

enjoy

Great! Thanks for the video. It's always so hard to tell on these videos as the camera always pics up the high tones better than the low and if you don't have a comparison video it makes the difference difficult. What I did hear sounded pretty good, nice and aggressive. If you get a chance to do a 'before' vid please do so. Try and film it the same way as the first so the sound is as close as possible, if you are able to. If you can't no worries, you've already done a lot for us.

I can't blame you on waving off the BC pipes considering the shipping issue for you. The Tors should suit your situation, and there will be other pipes coming.
