Question Spark plugs for 2010 Thunderbird

Since NGK doesn't seem to have an iridium plug for the TBird....anybody tried the Autolite XS4164DP as an alternative?

Are you sure thats even an alternative, and if it is that it's not a standard plug? I ask because i researched the heck out of this subject because i loved irridiums with my speedmaster. and i couldn't come up with one alternative plug to ours that was a non-standard or high performance plug. I will certainly check it out tho. But man, getting to the plugs is a lot of work on this bike !

tbh guys its not worth concidering on the thunderbird as it already has two plugs per cylinder, even if one fails to spark the second will. no benefit to be had.

I thought about that already, but i'd still like to see how they work. iridiums made quite a difference in my speedmaster in several ways, and side gapping them was even better. I can see how 2 plugs per would make plus like that unnecessary but you never know for sure till you try.

TBird Irridium plugs

The Autolite XS4164DP does show up as an irridium upgrade plug for the NGK DPR6EA-9 on the Autolite website. I know what you mean Daz... I sure noticed a difference on my America as well with the irridium plugs in place. I'd sure like to give some a try on the Bird.........

If you side gap them, that is cutting a bit of the ground electrode off so the center electrode is not covered, that pretty much doubles the effect of the iridium. Angler may be right not just because of the 2 per cylinder, but some bikes don't seem to benefit from them. even bikes of the same models. I imagine thats probably due to the way the bike is tuned....pipes? Air mods? Etc. But as much as mine benefitted i really wanted to try them. so i may give those autolites a try.

Does the bird use NGK as stock plugs? If so I'll want to change them out after what happened to the Magna...Will never use them again if I can help it....

yes. But if an electrode popped off or some such thing, realize that thats not a common thing with KGK or any plugs. You were just unlucky whatever it was because there are no common issues with NGK. They are used in most every bike on earth !
