Triumphs heated hand grips

Hi Guys
just finished fitting the heated grips, for your info the job was pretty straight forward, just a few things were done differently from the instructions,

1) the guide mentions slackening the "closing" cable at the inline adjuster, well mine was at the limit so could not be slackened any further at this point, ok of course at the R / H grip, so what I done was to open the throttle and insert a piece of wood to keep the throttle open at the injectors, this enabled slack in the closing cable at the handgrip, so off that came, plus the instructions show an "inline adjuster " for the opening cable, there was not one on mine .. but its not touched anyway if indeed you have one..

2) I also cut off the L /H grip, easier than trying to pull it off, its surplus anyways,

3) I also used a length of dowling to support the tank while removing the connectors and fuel line and breather pipe...

4) finding the 3 pin male connector for the heated grip cct was a pain, its situated on the small cable that serves the horn at the headstock, saying "its near the headstock" as per the instruction was a bit vague in my view, it has a blanking plug on it..

5) the trim around the instrument housing was a pain as well, its held in place in parts by small strips of double sided tape, you may want to ensure you have some ready, the thin stuff that is ..

And the Aux power socket is fitted as well, the heated grip control looks like a set of traffic lights, only green and red ( hot and warm ) when in use, plus the clock kept its time when disconned .. the rubber boot around the plug serving the instuments was taped in place to its loom here, the instuctions mentions just "sliding it back" to be able to pull out the multi plug, I just removed the added electrical tape and re-taped it when finished poncing about with it, I can now fry bacon on the move ..;-), hope this helps anyone contemplating fitting Triumphs heated grip thingys..

Regards

In the words of The Prince Regent in Blackadder "I haven't got a clue what you were saying but it sounds damn saucy "

For those of us that are mechanically illiterate can we start a sticky for doing upgrades . Preferably with pictures . Adding a power socket is something I definatly want to do to run a tom tom ect. Some pic's about stuff like this would be really good.

Great suggestion DruAde. Unlike dazco, who can read the service manual and deduce that it would be cost effective to wait to have the BB Kit installed at the 12K mark because the valve adjustment is going to take more time than on other models, I, too, require pictures and detailed instructions. That would make a nice sticky section indeed.

Hi Druade
For adding a power socket www.triumphinstructions.com is your friend (as it is with most upgrades but not all).., you need to be armed with the part number.. in this case
A9938039 ( you may need sub harness kit T2500642 ) if the plug that the aux kit plugs into is to short as mine was ..so check that out first before purchasing said kit, thats assuming you go the Triumph route ;-) installing it is pi$$ easy,,

Glad you like the sexy words, I should write for playboy,, thought they might help etc etc.

Cheers Alan .

I would still like to see a section here with mod descriptions and pictures done by members. I always find instructions a bit daunting even with line drawings . Probably because they never actually really represent the real story .

Also I think it makes for a good read and if there are pictures it makes it really interesting and a great part of forums.

My old Kawaski forums used to do it with step by step pictures and instructions . It was always really good to read and look at the things people were doing. Like debaffling pipes ect.

Could I be known as Ade from now on please lol. DruAde sounds so clumsy . Its an MMo thing when I cant sign up as Druid . Thanks lol.
