A thought about valve adjustment...

I *think*, that is i'm not sure, but it would seem that when they do the BB kit wouldn't they also adjust the valves? If so, then getting the bb kit could be seen as a way to start the valve adjustment countdown all over again. a nice bonus especially if you do it around the 12k first valve adjustment service. It's usually around $300-400 for the 900's, and looking at the Tbird manual it's a more tedious and longer adjustment for several reasons. So it may well be a $100 or more than the 900's. So doing the BB at that point could be looked at as saving 25% of the BB cost. Not sure i can wait that long, but it's a nice thought, especially since for me i have to rent a car twice to have my valves adjusted or the BB.

EDIT: i forgot....kit comes with cams of a different grind, so they have to adjust them. This gives me much more incentive, especially if i wait till i have say 10k on it. Saving the cost of a valve adjustment will take the BB kit cost down to about $1500.

i hate adjusting valves, i'm cheap and would have to do a valve adjustment every year, i average about 14000km per year.there is a lot of good points about installing a bb kit at first valve adjustment. or second and so on.

yeah, me too, and this one is going to be much more tedious because both cams are driven directly off the chain and also it's just much harder to get to everything on this bike. As to doing it every year, i don't think the 12k intervals are really necassary. I think the first one is since the bike will have seen a lot of break in between 0 miles and 12k, but after that i would probably tend to go further like 20k between them. Theres little doubt that between 0 and 12k miles there will be far more need than between 12k and 25k, so it's obvious they just want you to support your dealer more than anything else.

Very, VERY good point there Dazco!
I'll go with that.

Spend the time between new and valve adjustment with 'fiddlin' and 'tweekin' things, custom paint, oil pressure gauge, etc.

Leave the pork pies for now - get the sausage rolls while they're hot!

I'm pretty sure this is what i'm gonna do. thom i'm not sure i can wait till 12k. Also, i don't yet know what valve adjustment is going to cost, but i fear it may be insane because looking at the manual it will be worlds more work than on the speedmaster, and they wanted something like $400 for that !
