The REAL lowdown on BB kit warranty
Unless Peter at Triumph USA is wrong, the warranty works like this....
As far as LABOR costs, the warranty IS good when the BB is installed after you take delivery. However, it is not good for the full 2 years unless done before delivery. The warranty simply follows the bikes original warranty. For example, if the BB kit is installed 6 months after you take delivery, then the warranty on the kit is 1.5 years long. So basically all it means is that your bike has a 2 year labor warranty and if you get the BB nothing changes as that goes. If it's installed 1 day before your bike's warranty is up, your BB kit's warranty is good for 1 day. Get it?
Thats said, the warranty on PARTS is good for 1 year regardless of when it's installed.
And i'm not saying It's impossible that peter is wrong, but if HE can't be trusted then we'll never know till someone has to use the warranty. But if you think about it the above scenario makes total sense, so i think it is indeed the correct policy. But you also have to figure that is the mechanic does something wrong it's probably going to be obvious right away or very soon. And if the parts are defective you're covered for a year no matter what.

That might be the case but a reputable dealer would surely warranty their work for at least 6 months.

But they don't HAVE to provide any warranty outside of the bike coverage. Good luck getting that covered if a dope puts it in.

Obviously you discuss it with them and get it writing so that you don't end up with the dope.

You're both right to a degree. Lets face it, nothing is written in stone here and dealers vary as wildly as the personalities that run them. So one dealer may tell you to pi$$ off if you ask for a warranty past where it technically would be, and some others may say sure. I seriously doubt many will put it in wring tho. My issue with it is not just mechanical but i fear the cases will get scratched up removing the engine and that few if any dealers are gonna agree to making good on that unless the scratches are major. But like i said, it depends on the dealer and they do vary a lot in the way they do business.
