self installed bb kit ?
I have been building and restoring cars for many years I love building my own motors plus gives me a chance to port the heads and intake for more power . Has any body thought about installing their own kit. The specs should be in the serivce manual and any special tools needed any thoughts?

Regardless as to whether or not you COULD, if you do you will have no warranty. The BB comes with a 2 year (i think it's 2) warranty, but not if you install it yourself. I for one would never attempt to do it because the engine has to be removed because the frame is in the way. Then theres the liners....yeah, not for me !
This brings me to a thought i had recently tho....wouldn't it be great if they offered the cams seperatly?! I bet they are responsible for a good 1/3rd if not half of the gains, and you could do it yourself and no engine removal. Of course that will never happen, but that would be fantastic.

I read some were that the warranty was only good if it is installed before delivery. I plan to wait a 6m to a year for the kit and I hate the idea of someone else rebuilding my motor but me and I have no dealers close by. The salesman tried to talk me out of having them install the kit ?

That was a rumor which was proven wrong. As long as triumph authorized mech does it it doesn't matter if it'd done before or after delivery.

If I were you, I would trust no one to install my BB kit. If you have the experience of rebuilding engine for cars and I assume that you have all proper tools and access to auto machine shop. The BB kit will be no brainer. With the factory service manual and google search, any problems can be resolved easily.
If I do it myself, I know it will be done correctly. I don't need to second guess someone's work. I am just saying .............
YMMV, cheers

Obviously, if someone only has time to ride and couldn't care less about wrenching. BB kit should be installed by the dealer.
But I enjoy wrenching as much as riding or driving. It is in part to fuel my passion, not to save money. I think it will make me a better rider or driver and in many ways it is safer.

I agree...except for the warranty aspect. Otherwise if i could i would, but i don't have anywhere near the patience for that kind of thing as i did when i was young. But i fully understand the fear of letting someone else do it. I trust no one. Unfortunatly theres no way i would try it even if i had the patience, but with the warranty I'll feel safe. My biggest concern is dents and scratches from removing the engine. I know they will never pay up for that stuff, and if you ask them to guarantee they will pay for even the slightest damage like that i know they'll just tell me to go elsewhere.

Well, I've done a few engine rebuilds and while I wouldn't hesitate to do something like this on an older project bike, I'm just not up to doing it on a new bike for a number of reasons. Mostly it is an issue of the warranty, 2 years parts and labor if they do it, 1 year parts if I do it. (and probably a struggle to actually enforce that parts warranty if you do it yourself)
The other issue is it would likely take me more than 11 hours to do it myself. The dealership can only charge the book hours. Add to that I make more per hour than my dealership charges, I'd rather just do my job while they do theirs. 11 hours is a lot of riding time for me.
Now, if I can certainly understand why some of you would be interested in doing it yourself. Some of you seem set to do any further work that needs to be done, should there be ongoing issues. I'm just not setup to do that level of work. Just make sure you photo journal the process if you end up doing it.
