Fuel pump?
So I noticed today when I started up the bike a high pitch whine like you would associate with maybe a fuel pump. I had a good gallon probably left in the tank (gauge said 30 miles to go to empty/3 bars) but the sound kept going. I drove about 3 miles to a gas station and could still hear the high hum before shutting it down. Filled up and the sound was gone after startup. I'm a little concerned that if it is the fuel pump and it trying to get gas, is this normal? Not sure how the tank is laid out with a section that is like a reserve. Could this burn out the motor?? I had a similiar issue with a car burning up the fuel pump. Anyone else notice this or have a better understanding of things than I? Thanks

The fuel pump fires up when the key is turned to the 'on' position. It audibly stays on for about 2 seconds (guestimate) and then turns off. I've never had it do anything other than this. So, to answer your question, no, that's not normal. Perhaps it's a one time glitch thing that it got 'stuck on' but it's not really something you want to go out on you. If you haven't had your 500 mile check yet I would definitely bring it up then, otherwise give em a shout and just have them check things over.
Good luck

Just had my 500 mile checkup two weeks ago. I never noticed doing this before and I think I would have if it did. I'll definately continue to listen for it, especially once the tank starts running low again. Thanks for the response.

the electronic fuel pump on this bike can be hear running all the time, its louder at startup as its priming the fuel rail, once primed it stops until you start the bike then it starts again just quieter, it will be loudest when the bike is low on fuel, its a high pitched whine, the engine mostly drones it out but you can hear it if you listen carefully.

So thats what I am hearing , and I thought it was maybe the ECU ..Ooops, never heard the pump on the Tiget, but then maybe it was a different set up, also I notice that I cannot start up all the while the pump is priming, only turns the starter once its done doing its thing, anyone else noticed ??

Thats the way it's supposed to be. It disallows starting till the pump finishes priming.

Thanks Mad Angler for the explanation
