Stock Pipes/Aftermarket Exhaust Remap/K&N Report

Thunderbirders!
After 1300 miles I put the aftermarket exhaust remap in (no charge from the dealer, I buy lots of bikes, I get to watch while they do it) on the stock pipes without the K&N filter (hadn't come in yet).
First thing I noticed on my test ride is it added a slight bit of throat to the exhaust note (nice!) and added some more oomph to the power (also nice). The dissapointment was (I believe and British Customs concurs) the cat box noise on decel. Sounded like a monkey in there rapping on the metal. Never had any issues with exhaust noises on the stock config. I did notice that the more I rode it the sound seemed to get less and less.
Today I put the K&N in (easy install..just have someone hold down the frame as you start the screws) and the sound has pretty much dissapeared and the bike really moves out now! I still would like a tad bit louder exhaust note...primarily to drown out the "sewing machine" engine noise.
So at this point I am thinking of moving ahead with the British Customs pipe although I've grown accustomed to the "Swept" exhausts.
In conclusion...I give a thumbs up for the K&N air filter $55 and aftermarket exhuast remap.price varies, for a nice power and sound oomph for your Tbird...I think Dazco will agree.

Yes, i indeed agree. I knew it felt stronger than ever. Definatly stronger than the TORs with or w/o the tune, and i was pretty sure better than stock w/o the tune. Your experience seems to prove that, as I didn't go directly from stock pipes and stock tune to stock pipes and TORs tune. I took the long route thru TORs town, and it wasn't a very pleasant neighborhood. anyways, hearing that from someone who went right to the tune w/o the pipe change proves it....everyone should get the tors tune ! At this point i would really love to know what a power commander and a good dyno tuner could do for the bike that is totally stock except for a filter.

I'm not sure you saw this image I made Kurty that points out that the new version of the BC pipes are swept and that the video is a bit misleading because of the angles.

The line looks pretty close to the stock line to me.

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure what the future holds for me since I'll be getting the BB kit this month (fingers crossed) this will put me into the minority of a small group. The PC is probably my only option moving forward.

FYI repost

I asked BC about the angle of the pipes, considering our discussions I thought it best to actually get word from the people 'in the know'. Here is what they said...

Quote:
The pipe has the same up swept look that everyone saw in the first picture release, the only things that have changed are the internals.
They have since added pictures and a quick explanation on their blog.

Thanks Thatch. I can't wait for these to be done! I guess when they're done I can have B/C ship them along with the MAP directly to my dealer/mech. for installation??

Thing is, they're talking about tuneboy and power commander maps, and those can't be loaded into your bike w/o a power commander or tuneboy. So add the cost of one of those units to the cost of the pipes. i may be wrong here, but as far as i know thats the way it is. Hope i'm wrong because i may want these too if the gains are considerable.

Well, I don't know about your dealer, but mine is both a power commander and British Customs reseller. So, while I could install both myself, I shy away from the PC install just because it will be a bit of a pain finding it a place to hide, and I'll in all likelihood need a dyno tune since I'll (hopefully) have it all done at the same time my big bore kit is installed.

That should be some night and day ride once I get her back from that install.

Daz, I still have my stock pipes but I have the K&N installed. So I guess I'll head to my dealer when I get back to Idaho in Nov. to get the tor tune with my stock pipes. Is that the setup that is working the best. Iwant to keep my stock pipes, I like the way they sound.
