Where is your belt adjusted?

BigJack said his dealer adjusted his belt so that it sits in the middle of the pully instead of one edge resting against the rim of the pully like mine is. I can't help but question whether that mechanic is right or not because the other one i looked at had the belt like mine, and obviously Jack's was too. thats 3 out of 3. I realize Triumph screws up as much as anyone, but to adjust EVERY Tbird's belt wrong as it leaves the factory just seems awful unlikely. So my feeling is that the mech likely didn't have any knowledge of what is right but rather felt that running the belt in the middle of the pully seems like it makes sense. And i agree it does seem that way, but since none seem to come from the factory like that i have to question whether he just assumed that would be the right way.

But i have only seen 3 of them like that, so i wanted to ask everyone if they could post and say whether your belt is riding in the middle of the pully with a bit of clearance on both sides or whether one side of the belt is against the pulley rim. Mine is against the outside rim by the way.

Mine is to the outside of the pulley but there is a small amount of space between it and the edge (I can see the teeth) but the space is much smaller than to the inside.

I don't think placement actually matters as long as it is stable where it is at. In other words, if it's not pushing out (or in) showing that the pulleys are out of align then where it rides is of no importance.

On both demo bikes the belt was up against the pulley wheel side wall - nearest to the swing arm.

Mine's all the way to the outside away from the swing arm. I don't know if you could ever get it to stay right in the middle of the pully. Belts have a tendency to float.

Yeah, thats obviously it. Plus i since taked to jack and he said his mech TRIED to get it in the middle but it didn't stay. So i guess it's just a matter of making sure the wheel is aligned well enough that the belt isn't being pressured against the egde to any notable degree.

yep, just like mine. By the way, one nice little detail i read in an article bout the bird was that our pullys are made specially to last 3 times as long as pulleys normally do. So chances are we will never need to replace them, and the belts will also therefore likely last longer.

Mine was originally toward the outside (could still see the teeth). After my 500 mile check up, it was in the middle (after a 70 mile ride home), but has migrated back outside.
