Triumph Tbird cat bypass !
My dealer works with Mickey cohen who does all the work on triumph's promo fleet and therefore has more inside info than any dealer. According to my dealer, and opposite of what the mech there told me, Mickey says triumph WILL be offering a cat bypass kit for the bird ! I've been pretty excited about many thing since i got this bike, but this tops em all. We should gain around 12 HP with this mod, and when combined with tors and filter.....well, do the math. Gonna be the way to go for those who don't want to BB it. Possibly even more power than the BB alone. The BB will always have the advantage of being street legal tho. In any case, i will be chomping at the bit till i have cat bypass on mine.

This is wonderful news!!! I was hoping this would happen. Now the TORS just might be the the way to go with the removal of the CAT. I hope we can purchase them in California, as I know with harley stuff you can't....

I can't imagine that, but if it was the case I would have it sent to a friend in another state and pay him to ship it to me.

Speedy, there is a math error. You forgot a power adder, +TURBO
Should we start a pool to see who can blow up a P-Twin 1600 first?

Well, in an email to Mickey i mentioned the cat bypass to see if he would verify it too, but his reply to me was don't buy it, it will be a waste of money because the stock setup is straight thru. Thats all he said, but what i'm assuming he meant is that instead of the cat material being situated where the exhaust cannot get to the output of the pipe w/o going thru it, it is instead between the 2 pipes just as if it were a balance pipe with cat material in it. Except of course it's a big box instead of a pipe, but you get the gist of it. So the exhaust can go out the header outlet and thru the empty portion of the cat box and into the muffler with nothing in it's way. As the rpms go up and the exhaust gets to the point where there is back pressure, more exhaust will be forced thru the cat material. I think the trick with these TORS is the opening at the end. As someone mentioned a while back, the outlet os smaller than on the stock pipes. So they are less restrictive internally, but the outlet is smaller. So i think they may be quite a bit better performance wise and sonically if you opened the end up. Unfortunately that would probably require custom mapping.
anyways, the point of the post is that unfortunately it looks like our bikes will bot benefit like the R3 does with cat bypass. Looks more and more like i'm gonna be putting out for the BB kit.

That just doesn't read right to me. I'm gonna have to call B.S. until I get some further detailed backup on this. I can't see how an operating cat doesn't effect breathing quite a bit. I'm no expert of course and perhaps what he is saying is true but for now I don't see it.

Well, it could well be. But i didn't get a long description from him, just a single sentence. So i may be reading between the lines somehow. But he did say that the effect of bypassing the cat will not do much if anything. so yes, it may be slightly helpful the way i read him, but not nearly enough to bypass it. In any case, i'm certainly not going to be the first adopter for this one. the R3 cat bypass if three hundred something bucks. But they gain a lot of performance. This one may be just for sound, and if thats the case i'm out because i don't want any more volume unless I gain enough performance to make it worthwhile. It's looking more and more like i will probably want to just go with the BB anyways. Thats way if emissions testing happens i'll still have a power gain thats higher than any single illegal mod will yield.
By the way, why not call him and ask? I would but i don't want to *wear out my welcome* for when i need to ask more important things. Just google mickey cohen motorsprorts and his phone number is right there.
