Rear Fender Bolt Measurements

I want to order custom fit "ghost Brackets" for my "yet to arrive T-Bird". The fellas at CAO Distributing want to know the distance between the center of the fender bolts 1, 2 & 3 as well as the bolt length and thread size. They will start production as soon as they make them for me and I varify fitness. The purpose of the saddlebag brackets is the ability to disconnect the bags without leaving the ugly bracket on the bike. If not using the leather bags you can turn the key and release the bag and bracket leaving a clean fender rail and preserving the beauty of the bike. I am reccommending that they also buy a link from this forum.......thanks

Ok, well let me know. I'll be home today at 4:00 PST and i will check back here. If you still need me to check it post and i'll do so. Accuracy is crucial so i will need to be meticulous. So i'll wait till you tell me before i measure it.

It's 3:00PM ET and bike still has not arrived at the dealer. It was shipped from Georgia on 7/9/09.

Thanks for measuring for me.

1. Please measure from the center of the rear fender bolt to center of the middle bolt and from there to center of the forward bolt.
2. Remove a bolt and measure length in MM (they might all be the same)
3. Use a caliper to measure the width of the threaded end (should be 7mm).

The bolt length and thread size are key. The bracket is adjustable to fit variable distances between the bolts but the measurements were requested by quality control.

Another measurement that may be helpfull is the distance from the back of the turn signal to the top of the rear shock. Also the distance from the bottom of the pillian seat to the top of the muffler. This will give me an idea of the actual "Triumph" bag size. After I send them these measurements they will build it and add this to their line-up. They will include a picture on their web-site. Never thought we'd be part of product developement for the TBird.......cool!

Your time on this project is much appreciate Daz! I'm rushing to have them made so they are completed when my bags arrive. I am then going to take an 800 mile round trip to Boston, Mass. (assuming my touring seat, rider backrest, and other stuff isn't delayed as much as the bike itself. Ray

I DO have a caliper, but i haven't seen it for a while and will have to look for it. I moved last year and it could be anywhere, so i may have trouble locating it. I'll let you know when i get home.

Ok, found my caliper and here are the results. We will call the bolt closest to the seat #1, middle #2 and end #3. Caliper will of course be slightly different than true measurement or the bolts may be slightly off, so for example #1 at a thread diameter of 9.8 mm is likely 10 mm. I however measured the bolt distances in inches, but i cant use apostrophes or quote signs whatever they are called because when posting from my home PC i have to use a proxy server after having my home IP banned by a mod who disagreed with me on a TOTALLY subjective issue. (wheres a eyes rolling smilie when you need it?) And when i use a proxy server, any time i use a apostrophe it causes a backslash next to it. so anyways, those measurements will not have a \" next to them. (<<<see what i mean)

bolt #1: threads are 9.8 mm diameter. Length of threads is 45 mm
bolt#2 and 3 are 7.9mm thread diameter with the length of the threads being 25mm.

distances from bolt to bolt of course are all center to center of each bolt...

#1 to #2 and #2 to #3: 4-11/16
#1 to #3: 9-1/2
pointy end of turn signal to #3: 5-1/4
