Nope, no lesson of the day. Just out of curiosity, when did I mention morality? I am sure that you know what is right for you. Just adding my two cents.
On the subject of helmets, I was dating an army WAC in the early '70s during my stint in the army who was an assistant to an army oral surgeon. She told me of all the GI's that had motorcycle accidents while wearing open face helmets that wound up with broken jaws. Usually it took six weeks of having their jaws wired and eating a liquid diet before they could eat normally.
Kind of gives one insight as to the value of full coverage helmets.

Point is, just as you did yet again in this post you seem to want to preach to me. My pipes disturb others, it's unlawful, my hearing will be ruined, and now i'm going to sustain horrible injuries wearing a 1/2 helmet. You don't see what you're doing? Really?! Honestly, you've said nothing anyone here doesn't know. But understand that those things don't need to be said or preached here. This is a bike forum and trying to inform us about these things is like going to a cigar forum and telling everyone thier compromising their health by smoking cigars. Or a hunting forum and telling everyone it's wrong to kill animals. The majority here have aftermarket pipes and many wear less than FF helmets. Do you really need to even bring this up? You may not agree with the way many of us dress or how we outfit our bikes, but no need to school us. By the way, if you really want to talk about noise, lets talk about gardeners and leaf blowers ! Bikes you hear for 10 seconds as they go by. Harms no one. Leaf blowers wake me up every saturday 1/2 hour before i want to get up and sustain the noise for FOURTY FIVE minutes. Please....find a gardeners forum and do the same thing you're doing here...then i'll be thanking you !

Nice attempt at deflection. Gardening? Smoking?
I simply expressed my opinion that loud pipes are tiring and potentially hard on your hearing. It's your hearing, do as you will with it.
Last summer, I was working in Southern California and staying in an apartment. On a regular basis, some clown with a Honda V-twin cruiser with no mufflers would come into the parking lot at about mid-night and wake up the whole complex. It didn't take even ten seconds to annoy and disturb a whole bunch of people by a selfish biker.
On topic, those loud pipes seem to be highly over priced, don't they?

Get a dictionary and look up "analogy". It's a word who's meaning you apparently aren't familiar with, and the analogy i described is no different than what you are doing here.

Get a dictionary and look up "deflection" and while you are at it, look up "straw man argument".

Dealers? manufacturers? like to justify the insane price gauging by calling our bikes "toys" or "luxury items" around here. kinda pisses me off cause I'm trying to save gas $$$ riding instead of driving and tires & maintenance keep sucking my wallet dry.

Well the "bling" side covers arrived and I then had to order the damn rubber grommet because they don't come with them so all back and on the road again.. My HD buddy loves them coz they are "bling" but I really preferred the cranberry red to match my bike.. Think ill save up and get the replacement from bike bandit!
Still annoying though!

I hear you ... BUT ... I ride mine mainly because it is totally fun. During the warm months, I spend more on gas for the bike than I do for the car and my bike only gets 10 mpg better than the car! I have always believed that if you want to save money on gas and tires, a big ass cruiser is not the way to go. These things take money and/or time to maintain. Service is not cheap. Parts are not cheap. There really isn't a hell of a lot of gas savings (especially since I choose to run premium). And yes there is certainly some gouging but does anybody really NEED a cruiser? I think maybe it is a luxury for most people. Also, I save a ton by doing the work myself, but I have the tools and skills. If you don't, be prepared to spend the big bucks. It's like buying a BMW vs a Chevy ... don't buy the Beemer if you can't stomach the maintenance cost.
