Soft paint on TB
Is the Jet Black as soft as some have said on this forum. You Jet Black TB owners are you having problems with swirls on your black finish. i am undecided if I shoild wait for 2013 Storm? I like the sound of 2013 since I am far from superstitious. i even like the sound og 666! Seriously there are discounts out there for 2011.

It will swirl badly. All gloss black paint does, but the triumph water based paint is the worse i've encountered. Luckily for me mine is the blue, but even with it the upkeep is worse than any paint i've had before, but thank god it's not black. I wouldn't buy a black triumph. On the other hand, matte black has it's own set of problems and i'd stay way from that even more. I hear they are coming out with a greyish storm so waiting till '13 may indeed be worth it. One person saw it i think at the triumph event and said it looks great in person.

Black,Black,Black. It is and does everything you have heard. Bought mine in 2011 of April and nothing but swirls and scuffs and wondering why the black is so hard to look after. At first I washed it all the time and waxed, with soft cloth and dried with pricey shamy. Now I wash when needed and except the fact that the black is hard to maintain. 20,000km on it now and have to replace front and back tire. Told that is average. Still would rather have my tbird then anything else out there.

Wait...are you saying you got 12000 miles out of your tires? And you're complaining ?! Take a good look around at all the tbird forums....i have yet to see anyone get that much ! Well, maybe 1 or 2, but i can't recall for sure. Most get 1/2 that, and the stock metzelers generally get around 4-6000 miles . My avon rear got 5200 miles, thats about 8500km ! You may have paint issues, but on tires you are LUCKY !
As to the paint, get some mother's scratch remover and a Peak brand SPA polishing cloth. Trust me on the cloth, seriously. Rub the paint out with those then take some mothers sealer glaze and work that in and let it dry before removing. Then wax and top it off with liquid performance spray cleaner/polish. Those products i found for the sole purpose of not only glossing the finish up nicely and removing as much swirling as possible, but also to hide what swirling is left because you never can get it all.

I have a Storm. Black, of course. Yes, it's temperamental paint. I polish out the flaws and wax periodically when they can't be hidden with the Pledge. But my regular detail is with Pledge keeps it looking great, even the engine and transmission casings. All I can say is when you like black, you live with anything else.

Do you mean if you go black you won't go back? I hope the new grayish color is not a matte gray!

Meh.. not a fan of that look. But it's all personal taste.. so I'm sure some will love it. I prefer a classic look over the mean.. bad ass.. look of the storm. I guess that's why I went with the blue/white. Tho I like the silver/black color too. And some of the haze colors look nice as well.
