I can finaly say as a personal experience I have had the oportunity to track ride the STORM and the Top Speed achieved last weekend was 142 miles on flat. I am sure with more distance the THUNDERBIRD STORM would have increased that speed.
(STANDARD BIKE WITH NO MODIF...)

How did it feel?? Wind Blast a issue, front end stability. Did it feel like you could hold the speed for a while??

Great bike, I test rode one at my dealer today while getting new tires for the R3T, the power and throttle response really took me by surprise.

That must have been some straight . Ive only managed 120 odd on my 1700, probably only 3/4 of a mile though and Ive got short tors and high flow filter. how long was the straight u used?

I thought at least the 1600s imported to the U.S. were pegged to 115 mph (roughly) maximum speed. Does than not apply to the Storm? A relative took my 1600 at about 24 miles on the odometer 80 mph+, two up, one WITHOUT a helmet. He hasn't driven it since. I remember my father's admonition: Try to keep the shiny side up, and don't ride any faster than you want to fall off. Smart man, my dad.

I agree with curtis41. According to the tunemaps of both the 1600 and 1700 Thunderbirds (e.g., 20306; 20310) the speed limit is set to 185 kph (115 mph). While the limit can be electronically increased via TuneECU I am unsure whether the OEM gearing will pull the bike to or beyond this speed.

I took mine to 120 when it was a stock 1600. I felt i could have gotten it another 10 MPH more, maybe 15. But thats indicated, not real speed. I believe the speedo is probably somewhere around 8 MPH optimistic at that speed. I know it's 3-4 optimistic at 40 and i think it increases linearly a you go faster. I would say tho i could have achieved a true 125. As a 1700 w/tors, filter, duct removal i can see it hitting 140 or more indicated. The theoretical top speed, that is the speed it would hit if redlined in 6th is something like 180. Of course thats not going to happen w/o a heck of a lot more power. probably take another 50 HP. Wouldn't catch me doing 180 even if it could tho. Not sure i'd even try hitting 140. 120 was fast enough ! As to the limiter, i'm not sure i should remove it and tempt myself

But i might. I'm also going to correct the speedo which is available in the lastest few versions of tuneecu.

Not me....i'm pretty bored with life at this point so anything that takes me out sooner is ok by me. Seriously, 120 is not exactly dangerous for a short few seconds on a desert area freeway with no cars within a mile or 2 of me. Rock solid bike with Z rated tires on a deserted freeway one time for a few seconds. Thats probably a million times safer than you are riding a bike at the speed limit for years.

Unseting the speed limit for an official dealer with the ACTIA electronic tool is not the problem, the only problem is with the gearing... not able to reach much more than 140 mph.
