What exhaust do you have and how do you like it?
I finally got my budget together and am now abel to start customizing my bird. Its the 1700 red haze and Im thinking bout getting the Hog slayer system with the black finish. I was just woundering what you guys got on your bikes and how does it sound and what did it do for power

Short TORS. Love them.
advantages:
1-lighter than long TORS or stockers
2-gives access to axl bolt so u don't have to remove pipe to get to it
3-cheapest pipe out there, but excellent quality
4-great performance increase, as much as i would ever have expected
5-somehow the bike got much smoother. probably the length of the exhaust pulse due to the short length. But surprising and huge bonus there.
On the strictly subjective side, i love the tone. Not too loud, probably lower than most but still considerably louder than stock when opened up. Nice deep tone. Also subjective, but they look great and everyone who's seen them agrees it's a great improvement there. If it's not apparent i love these pipes and would never consider any other. Best change i made to the bike since i got it with the possible exception of the 1700 kit. Notice i said "possible"? Thats saying a lot considering how i have also raved about the BB kit.

I went with the D&DS. Great sound and I like the non-flared look better than the Triumph TORs. They are inexpensive through Fast Eddy, but not as cheap as the short TORs. Daz is right that for the money, the shorts can't be beat, but I wanted the looks of the D&Ds

I've got the Hog Slayers and I love them. They are loud, but not obnoxious, and have a great tone. They eliminate the Cat and give a great power boost. Thatch can do a better job of giving you the bennefits, but for my two cents, I love them.

I as well like the black muffler look, I contacted Hogslayer to question if they had a option to provide black headers also. They're reply was they do not have headers, to buy the polished set and ceramic coat it all together because theres may not match if you had it done after. Having said that the TORS are cheaper to begin with so I am going to get a quote on getting them coated.

Anyone have the Stainless Ride exhaust? I have read some posts about the Staintune exhaust but they are from different companies. I like the stock look of the Stainless Ride buy don't know how they sound.

For mine, I did a fair amount of research just like you are and should, but I chose the Staintunes: Aussie made, great sound, huge weight savings with the CAT eliminated, noticeable improvement in responsiveness and power boost, the later model looks good, they are legally approved for Aussie roads which the TORS are not so I won't have insurance or police unapproved modification problems, they fit easily and retain the original heat shields so look "original" as opposed to some of the aftermarket offerings. Here is the link to the Staintune site. There are two models shown for the Thunderbird, I preferred the later version they refer to as the 2010 Thunderbird 1600 model.

Short TORs... for all the reasons above. However, I'd love to find a shorty without the flare someday. For the time-being, they'll do... got a BB kit to start thinking about for the end of this riding season. Maybe by next spring more after-market manufacturers/suppliers will step up to the plate and we'll seem more exhaust options.
Of course, there's always the totally custom route...

Lots of people seem to dislike the flare, but i am the exception. I have always thought that pipes that angle upwards must be flared ot they look odd to me. And conversely pipes that parallel the ground like the america/speedmaster must NOT be flared or that too looks wrong. Maybe it's from my early days when thats they way most bikes did their pipes. Always loved those norton dunstall flared pipes. I still see those 70's bikes as the quintessential standard look in many ways.

I have Hog Slayers and love 'em. First, they lightened the bike by 13 lbs. Second, they sound great. They're not much louder than stock sitting at idle or just cruising along, but they'll bark pretty good if you decide to get a bit more "spirited" with the throttle hand. Also, they don't stick out like the stock pipes. They come in closer to the bike.
